Vacuum- Will this work for stablizing wood?

Hello everyone! I’m a noob here so please forgive me if I’m posting this in the wrong section...

I have access to a lot of beautiful sumac, cedar, etc. and I would like to be able to stabilize those woods to make knife handles. My question is if something like this set up is recommended:

go to Turntex.com. Curtis Seebeck is a wealth of information on the topic. Longer answer is the lids on those can crack after a time. I'm not a fan.
