Another great job by Vadim! I couldn't be happier with his work, price and speed of delivery. This one is going to my 8yr old son :)

Pic Here

The western style tooling is a little rough but the sheath itself is more than wonderfully executed.
More practice will bring the quality of the tooling up too the standards of everything else.:D

Luopo, that's a really nice sheath; Vadim is very talented...! Please give us contact information, and any more information about the craftsman himself. Does he work with different kinds of leather, can he copy existing designs, etc., etc.

Thanks!

You can reach him at vesscollectibles@rogers.com

His webpage is vessleatherworks.com

I've had him make 4 sheaths for me so far and each look just great. He does snakeskin inlays, toad skin and some other stuff. I think the only thing I've asked him to do that he couldn't do was sharkskin cause it's a controlled/restricted import item up there in Canada. I'm having him make another couple of sheaths for me too. Can't say enough good things about him!

Awww, thank you! :)

And yes, my tooling varies a little still. Sometimes it comes out really nice and crispy, but sometimes a little less than perfect. I blame it on leather, at least for now... :D I just don't get the chance to do it more often, only did maybe a dozen carved sheaths over the past year.

I did invest in some fairly comprehensive DVDs on Western and Sheridan carving a few weeks back, watched them maybe six times already, now just need to practice more whenever I have free time.

Vess I'm a long time leather carver and believe me all it takes is practice, practice, practice.:D
Also careful casing of the leather prior to carving, that's one of the biggest problems for beginners and old time crafters like me who doesn't do much carving anymore and it's just a matter of having patience and letting the wet leather dry too the proper dampness to get a good burnishing action from the saddle stamps and other tools.
A swivel knife won't, can't, make good cuts when the leather is too damp and the saddle stamps won't, can't, make good crisp impressions.:(
The last few times I've set down to carve a project I have made myself do a few practice runs on some "Rounders" or some scrap leather in order for my work too look professional on my finished project just because it is so long in between times.
A nice smooth job of beveling and backgrounding will go a long way in making other mistakes look less noticable.;)
My swivel knife work has only been up to what I expect from myself a couple of times, the other times it has been acceptable to others who aren't as critical of me as I am.:grumpy:
I am my own worst critic, always have been.  :D ;)

Your layout and sewing are exceptional and that's saying a lot coming from me!!!! :D
