Vagabond FB?

Hi Loki.

I'd heard they started shippping this week. Must give Howard (Knife Center)credit for being on top of the "new" and presenting it well.

The model was designed to be a simple, easy to travel with FB. Picnics, tailgate parties, backpacking, etc. It's designed to be more of a "tough, tolerate abuse" piece rather than a "dainty" piece.

The handle grips well for Pikal and the bi-directional texture is quite aggressive. I don't think slippage would be an issue. The hook (expansion) at the butt does make it difficult to cap the handle.

The blade steel is AUS-6, but it is Aichi AUS-6, cryoed. With a base blade thickness of .150 (almost 4mm), it's pretty stout.

It might serve better to pull the guard and make a Kydex/Boltaron sheath for Pikal.

Well just got a couple of Vagabonds from New Graham. While an inexpensive knife I'm very impressed. This is a tough little FB. The handle is comfortable is any grip I can manage including the pikal. The handle shape and aggressive volcano texture make for a very sercure hold - no slippage at all. I used to be dismissive of short blades - that is until I really used them. The three inch blade on the Vagabond is indeed stout - no worries about a broken tip. The hollow grind is near perfect and combined with the drop point makes for an attractive and practical blade. The flipper "sheath" appears secure and is easily "opened" with one hand. It stays securely closed when the knife is used. A side benefit of this "sheath" is that you can do some measure of manipulation/training without a sharp blade to worry about - kind of a built in light training device. As a utility knife it's near perfect - I'm sold on the small blade / large handle concept. As a defensive blade, IMHO it works very nicely indeed - especially as a pikal style fighter. The "sheath" may not be eveyone's cup of tea but it's an interesting design with lots of potential. Great job Sal!
