Just took a look at three swords:

Valiant Armory Castile

Valiant Armory Kriegschwert

Anyone had experiences or handled one of the above three?

Go to sword buyers guide

They have many Valiant armory reviews listed here.

Go into the discussion forum and review forum to find opinions on them.

The Castile and Kreigschwert are very highly regarded.

I might pick up a Kriegschwert. I don't like the tang of the castile while the Kriegschwert looks like its peened.

The Kreigschwert pommel is attached by a recessed hex nut, and the sword is reviewed very well. This method of attaching the handle to the sword tang is used by Angus Trim on his swords and is regarded as being secure enough for whatever use you want to put the sword through. It is not historically accurate but oh well.

There are pros and cons to both pommels depending on who you ask.

Guys with an eye towards customizing their swords like the threaded pommels because it makes it easy to disassemble the hilt assembly.

With a Kreigschwert, customizing is pretty much done so the pommel is a moot point.

If you consider a threaded pommel sword, look at DarkSword Armoury also, their swords are bombproof.

Lots of info on either Sword Buyers Guide, or Sword Forums International. Look at MyArmoury for info on different models also.

If the tang of the Kreig worries you, take a look at this one-

Peened pommel and bombproof. They come unsharpened though, so you will have to sharpen it to cut with it.

I own three of their swords and they are all beasts.

Go to their eBay store and they have the above sword on sale for 175.00 plus shipping.

I just ordered one of these,

And one of these,
http://darksword-armory.com/1803.html

Although I ordered the guardian from SBG rather than DSA themselves. The shipping was free which made a big difference in price and you can still order them sharpened.

I don't have either yet but can't wait to get them. I'll write a review on both once I have them. I've always wanted a big two handed sword and was gonna buy the two handed great sword by Cold Steel. I'm extremely glad I did some looking around and research before I did because IMO the DSA swords are much better looking and much cheaper. :D

I want one of those Guardians from DSA myself, I'm thinking maybe next month I will get one.

I've already got the Ranger, Boromir, and Grayson from DSA. I bought the Grayson from Arms of Valor.

SBG is a great reference for anyone considering a sword purchase, lots of helpful info and real world reviews.

Yeah it was your post that introduced me to DSA. Like I said I always wanted to start collecting medieval weapons, but I found Cold steel to be a little pricey for the quality and I didn't like what I heard about how they handle. Like a crowbar people say. I was looking at Valiant Armory. I particularly liked the signature models but I didn't a two hander. So When I read your post about DSA I did a bunch of research on SBG and youtube. With in an hour or so I knew I wanted a DSA blade. I just had to figure out which one. The guardian was the best looking sword and was lighter in weight than the other two handers. I like the historical accuracy of the Medieval two hander, but I really liked the guardian and thought It would be a good fit for me. I intend to display it on my wall but also use it for cutting. The next one I'm going to buy will be the Norman sword to match the dagger. Then I think I'd like to try one of these

Glad that you found my post useful, I have gleaned mucho information on SBG. The community there strikes me much like here, pretty open and friendly. There are several other forums out there full of sword info, but I always seem to fall back on SBG for the final word.
If you're still considering a Cold Steel piece, look at the Grosse Messer. That blade is no joke, and is an absolute beast of a cutter. It is surprisingly nimble and handles very smoothly. I'm not a small guy, but I don't see how anyone with a modicum of strength and sense couldn't cut well with it.

I am definitely getting a Guardian here soon, I'm also on the search for their Flame of Angels if I can find one. It was made in 07, and no one seems to have one in stock. Those that bought them must hold them close because I haven't seen one for sale lately.

Good luck with your DSA pieces, you're gonna be hooked!

Chuck

Thats the one, but it is not in stock. Jason at AOV said that they MAY do another run of them some time in the future. I hope that they do because that sword looks so freakin awesome I gotta have one.

I'm tearing at my brain right now over whether to order a Guardian from KultofAthena, or the Kriegschwert.

I tend to prefer swords with forward curving quillons, but the Krieg has definitely got alot going for it. If I get a Krieg though, then I have no excuse for not getting the DSA Gothic two hander and so on and so forth.

Too many decisions and not enough gold in ye olde pouch.
