Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here has had any dealings with Valiant, the Austrialian based Indonesian parang/weapons company, in the last month?

The reason I ask is because I ordered 2 parang over a month ago, I have been billed for them, but no parang. Several emails have been sent, the latest being bounced back with a message that the mail box is full. Two faxes have been sent but no reply.

Customs do take time sometimes to process things sometimes, but not being able to get any reply from Valiant is what is causing me concern. I have had several things mailed to me from New Zealand, the US and Indonesia in that time without any significant hold up. Bouncing emails and no replys to faxes isnt a particularly good sign.

So, if anyone has successfully done any trading with Valiant in the last month please say something. I know people have in the past without any problem, but it is the last month I am looking at. It is reaching the point where I am about to get my credit card to investigate.

I haven't received any email on my last order too - which is strange for Wandi. Having been in extensive email correspondence with him before - I'd decided to leave him alone for a while.
Given what we know - he's a very straight up guy - all will be resolved soon. My guess is that being innundated with orders, he's off to search out more blades.
I'll see if I can get in touch with him.

I hope he does turn up soon, Jimbo. That said, if I dont hear anything back in the next week or so, I am going to contact my credit card company and make a complaint.

I was told that the items I ordered were in stock, and would be dispatched a month ago. I paid for standard airmail, not economy shipping, so they should be here by now-IF-they had been dispatched when I was told they would be.

To have the items go missing or be held up in customs, ( not likely for this long-my HI kukri's havent had such a problem going through ), would be one thing, but have that happen AND not be able to get hold of the company as well. Quite a co-incidence. Even if the owner is away getting more stock, why is no one picking up the email, ( you can do this easily enough in Indonesia-I know having been there ) and no one manning the office?

I know several people here have had satisfactory dealings with the company, which is why I placed the order in the first place. I wont likely be making any more in the future, ( assuming the company is still in business! )

Never had any problems, I have been on regular email exchange with Wandi, the owner, up to a month ago, when I took vacations.
I hope he has not got any health problem. I'll post here if I hear from him.

I received a reply to my fax this morning. Apparently Valiant's records have been wiped out by a computer virus and they have not been able to process any orders in the last 4 weeks+.

There are no hard copy records of any orders made online. Given that, I would recommend anyone who is waiting for an order or who wishes to make one that they contact the company via telephone or fax. The numbers are:

Phone: 61-8-9304 0660
Fax: 61-8-9304 0270

Thanks for letting us know!
I was starting to worry that Wandi had met with some sort of accident or health problem. Both singularity and I have had a lot of dealings with Wandi - and have always found him to be a very honest guy - so I wasn't too worried monetarily despite having an order overdue myself.
I'll post a note over on knifeforums to let people there know what's happening.

No problem Jimbo. Thank you for posting the info on the other forum. Hopefully it will alert any other people waiting on outstanding orders.

A pox on the *******s who write the virus's. Being out of order for the last month has no doubt cost Valiant quite a bit of money in lost orders. I myself installed a firewall on my PC along with anti virus software last year. I found several virus's on my machine-and I've had several sent to me since. This sort of software seems to be essential these days

Ouf , I still prefer it to be about computer health than personal health.
Agreed about the firewalls and virus software, even the mails need filtering nowadays...
Thanks for the info.

Suwandi and Valiant Co. are one of my favorite knife dealers. I've dealt with her several times and have the utmost respect for her integrity. I'm glad you straightened out your communication issues!

Bill

I posted a note over on knifeforums. I'll post another over on Plainsman's later.
It seems that all crashes come at the worst possible time. Wandi was in the middle of fighting customs over some of the kerambits that were held due to Australian knife laws and their interpretation. He brings in the blades from Indonesia. All in all with that and a big increase in orders - I imagine that he's living in stressful and interesting times!
I can also see where some people might be getting upset after finding out that their order might not be happening unless they phone or fax. If they want to email me, with details - I'll pass them on to Wandi. It's no trouble since I'll have to contact him anyway about my last order.

I'd have to agree with getting upset about viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, hoaxes and you name it. With my website, I leave my email open with no "remove" to make things easier for people. Everyone can just imagine how much junk mail I get besides all the stuff with nasty attachments! At school with 50 plus computers to deal with, as well as a full time job - things really add up! Just dealing with fixing, cabling and network problems is enough.
