I really like this knife's design. Looks like a quality piece, and although it is 440C, Boker has done a lot of this steel and should have the HT down pat. Anybody have one of these, if so, what are yout thoughts on it. I really doubt I would have a lot of use for it, but it would be nice for things that go bump in the night.

Same as you, I do like the design and I have been watching them going on the bay for a while. I have bid on a few but the price goes too high for me. Some day I will get one.

I wanted to resurrect this thread and see if anyone has one of these as I am giving some serious thought to purchasing one. One question I have, and I haven't been able to find the answer, is where this knife is made? I would think Tawain, but that is only a guess since China is now in the mix.

440c is a great steel in my opinion.
Just because 440 is in the steel name doesn't mean its a bad steel.
Remember 440c is a good steel, 440v is aka s60v, and 420v is aka s90v.

Thanks Stu. Went ahead and pulled the trigger on this one. It was between the Boker and a new Kabar Becker BK7. If I was going to be using it outside I would have probably gone with the Becker, but I just loved the styling so much I had to go with the Valkyrie. Still don't know the country of origin, but if anyone does, please post.

I read somewhere else that it was a Taiwan blade, although the blade is not marked with a country of manufacture. However considering other good knives such as SOG and Cold Steel are also made in Taiwan now - I'm not sure thats really such a bad thing. Opinions?

Rick,

Sorry for the delayed response but mine has a sticker, "Made in China." No other permanent markings re: country of origin. Nonetheless... a great looking knife. :D

Where was the sticker located? Gilariversun, I would have no trouble with a Tawain manufactured one. Tawain seems to be the "new Japan" as far as cutlery is concerned. It seems that some companies in Tawain are given a price line to match, and do so anyway possible. These are the ones that give the bad name. Other companies are hands-on with the Tawain factories with modern equipment and good QC, along with decent materials. I had really assumed the Valkyrie was of Tawain manufacture due to its MSRP, the Boker Plus name, and the 440C blade steel. There are some new bowies available from Boker than run about half the MSRP of the Valkyrie, and are outfitted with 440 blade steel(not to be confused with 440C). and also sale for about half the street price as the Valkyrie. These are made in China.

But I guess like everything else, if you have modern equipment, updated materials, the right people in the right places, and are willing to spend a little extra for a quality product, then China can produce it. Say that because the fit and finish, crisp grind lines, blade sharpness, and other intangibles add up to what seems to be a well crafted knife. I've shown it to several folks and everyone of them has oohed and ahhed over it, with a couple swearing it was made in Germany. Course none of these folks qualify as knife knuts so everything they say must be taken with a grain of salt!

Bottom line, I'm happy with it, and in the end that's what counts!!:D

The sticker was one of the round clear plastic type and was stuck to the side of the blade just in front of the guard.

You are absolutely correct about the quality. I am certainly very happy with it and in addition... it is not a knock off copy as far as I know...
