Hey guys, I just finished up these two small axes and I thought I would share. This is my Valkyrie tomahawk design minus the spike. For the prototype I wanted to something different, so I gave it osage scales and did some Norse inspired burning on it. I think it came out pretty cool.
The second one has natural canvas micarta scales. The steel is 1/4" 4140 that I deferentially tempered. These should make a really nice woods hawk.

Let me know what you think.

Drawn back tang.

Great wood scales, lends it a more natural look, i bet it would look even better bare steel with the wood scale, but thats my personnal taste ;)

Ben, I originally discovered you on tradgang & still watch for posts there as well . Is this hawk based on a Nordic design or Germanic ? Also on some of your previous Hawks I believe L6 was the steel you were using are you still high on this steel or have you moved on ?

I love your hawks Ben.
My only comment would be that I feel like it needs maybe a half inch more poll length, BUT i havent held one in hand, or used one, so It could be perfect as it is.

It is styled after norse axes, always been a favorite style of mine. They knew what they were doing when designing and axe.
I do still like L6 steel, but these I did in 4140. It seems to make the most sense, it's extremely tough and takes a razor sharp edge. The hardness seems to be just perfect for axes and hawks. It is 55rc on the cutting edge and pole and then I draw back the tang into the body to appx. 47rc for even more toughness.
It is also more available in the sizes I need for these.

Thanks man.
It feels just right to me. Its a nice balance between aesthetics and functionality I think. I appreciate the input though!!

Those look great Ben!! Where do you source the material in a size large enough to make those?
Very clean.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Playing around with handles.....

Yeah definitely beautiful work. Do you plan on putting a spike on any of them? And let us know when you have some to sell

The standard version has a spike on the spike on the back.

Shoot me a PM for any sales info.

Damn that is tasty! I love tomahawks! I have a RMJ Jenny on order right now and just bought a modified Shrike, that I'm hoping is stellar? But I'm definitely going to keep you under consideration when it comes to buy a new hawk. You definitely have some lookers, and what I've read so far, they are workers as well!
