So while I was at the Dalton knife show today I was really taken with a Valley Forge jack knife. What is the history behind the company? Included a pic of the knife - it's the 5th one up from the bottom.

Did you buy it?

According to Goins:
Manufactured in Newark, NJ. from 1892 and owned by Boker USA 1902- 1950.

I've got one, it's a very nice knife. I need to take and post some pictures soon.

Levine's Guide says Valley Forge Cutlery (with VF in circle) was owned by Boker USA 1899-1950. The original Valley Forge Cutlery was in business 1892-1899.
I owned a Valley Forge knife. Because everyone loves pics, here's a few of that knife.

Halfneck that looks like a beautiful and very nice condition Valley Forge fancy bolster Jack! I would love to see that one up close. Thanks for posting that photograph.

Beautiful EO Jack

Here is a 3.5 inch Eureka Jack without the VF in a circle on the pile side primary blade tang which I understand means produced prior to around 1916-1917 some say 1921. Boker started adding the VF in a circle after that date to their knives until 1950. It also has an early VF Cutlery Co. three line address on both blade tangs.

Wish I'd bought it, but my knife funds are spent for the month. Worse was I did not get the guy's card so I can check back later.

I found a few pics. Mine has the VF circle, so it was made by Boker USA

Oh wow.

Vintage Valley Forge are great knives but Frost Cutlery owns the name now. They are manufacturing slipjoints under the VF with Valley Forge Cutlery Co, Newark N.J. stamped on the tang but I highly doubt these are being manufactured in the USA these knives are not only very inexpensive ($10 or $15) but typical Frost Cutlery quality. In other words IMO keep your money or buy a Rough Rider.

I think I have only one or two Valley Forge knives. This one is a little used up, but has these cool waterfall covers, that move as you move the knife. Of course, I can't really catch that in a picture.

This may help you all date the Valley Forge knives. I have a 1919 Hardware Catalog that sold Valley Forge knives. The logo is etched (?) on the side of the large blade and is: "Valley" "VF" in a circle "Forge". Here is a photo of one from the 1919 catalog:
