I just found out about the Valley of Fire a few months ago while I was overseas. I have been looking up info on the place and finally got out to Nevada to see what it’s all about. I would have to say it is right up there with the great places the South West has to offer like Death Valley, Joshua Tree, and Sedona. This was also one of those times in photography where the camera just couldn’t capture how amazing the scene actually was.

On the way…

On the way to Valley of Fire is a place called Redstone. That alone is a place I could have spent all day hiking and snapping photos, but the best was ahead still.

The Wave

This place was not that easy to find, but a short hike later- there it was!
Luckily, the light gods were in a good mood.

The Valley of Fire is a very special place and one of my favorites. It has many hidden treasures and a long history. Great pictures!

As a Las Vegas native I Guess I take for granted the areas around the city. I think I was camping in valley of fire during your trip. I have been going out there about once a month camping with the kids and hiking all the little trails they have. We spent all summer at Mt Charleston. I must admit to having no clue about the train tunnels. Funny cause I have passed them on my boat about 1000 times. I hiked them yesterday was a really nice day out.

Bear,
You truly do work in some of the most beautiful areas in the world. I have ridden ATV's on the Loganville(?) trail. Our trip was a one day opportunuty out of the city so ATV's let us get around the most.

I do love the high desert. I don't know when I might get back that way but have great memories of the derts. We went to South Rim, Redrock for horseback, another horseback trip on part of the old wagon trail, and to some old gold mines next to a gas station featured in and blown up in Leaving Las Vegas.

It is a treat and an honor to travel and you do so well to share it with the rest of us.

While I love where I live now I do miss the canyon lands out there, great photo's!

Fantastic landscape!!! If i *ever* get out that way i'll be sure to bring a pack FULL of 120 Portra (OK, maybe toss in some Acros Neopan or Tri-X...).

Funny, I grew up camping and spending time at Valley of Fire and it's not one of my favorite places to visit. It is certainly beautiful, but I now spend a lot of my outdoors time at mt. Charleston as I prefer mountains and trees. I'm glad you enjoyed it though.
