In thumbing around the internet. And I found valley brand axes . I know that the heads are imported U.S. hickory handles 2.5 lb head 28in handles s2 steel . Amazon has them in a 6 pack for $149 . I don't need 6. I found a place I can get one for $25 but shipping is $24.
Anyone know anything about these?

I have one in almost new condition with a busted handle. Looks like it was hung on a crappy piece of wood. I assumed Chinese hickory but it may have just been a poor sample of American hickory. I've never used it or sharpened it. The axe head is well formed and finished with thick eye walls. It's rather flat-cheeked but has a convexed bit.

I honestly can't speak to the quality of it since I haven't used it. I suspect it was made in India but that's just a guess. I don't have any facts to support that. It's just that other tools with the look of Valley's striking tools are frequently made in India.

I see that some of their axes are cast iron. I'm a little suspect of anyone who would sell a cast iron axe.

I talked to valley tool they are upfront with the fact the heads are imported. I didn't think to ask where. The only cruiser size made in the U.S. is the barco ax.I haven't heard good things about them. For what cruisers go for on Ebay I don't want to pay that without putting my hands on . Indian axe steel can be okay. I have some harbor freight stuff that is decent if you are willing to work on the edge.

I know of an excellent vintage USA made True Temper cruiser head that sold today for $34. Not appreciably more than the import stuff of today. If you really want a quality tool, you can have one without spending too much.
