Valley Tools Axe - Double Bit AXE-312D. Anyone heard of these? I'm guessing cheap and made offshore. Supposedly forged from S2 tool steel, whether that's good or bad. Don't know anything about S2. Don't really want one, just a curiosity.

A good inexpensive starter axe? Quality??????

Yes, plenty of other options. Me, I'm not looking. I've got at least 50+ vintage and new US/Euro axes lying around. I'm just throwing it out there, maybe as another option for someone looking for cheap starter, wondering if anybody had seen or used one. Its possible that with the forged S2 head and hickory haft it might not be such bad tool for the price.

Saw a new hatchet at the at the swap meet today for 10$, It did not say where it was made just the importers name from the LA area and the company name from somewhere in the UK. The LA thing has me thinking China.
It looked okay, but I don't buy new stuff plenty of older and better hatchets and axes around to refurbish.

. . . Don't really want one, just a curiosity. . .

Now you've go me curious. As best as I can tell from your link, Valley is a wholesaler. I am unable to find a retailer or price.

Addendum: I thought I'd seen the Valley logo before, then realized I had these:

IIRC (haha) I got them 10+ years ago new at a flea market for very cheap. There are no markings on them to indicate country of origin. Surprisingly they work very well and have not failed me.

Saw more tools today trowels and clamps first number in the bar code is 8 which I think means China.

China is likely. Still, the pics don't look bad and it's not too expensive at $35 delivered. Forged, S2, hickory .... Worth the price just to satisfy curiosity? Probably not.
