Does anyone know of any problems with these knives. I think mine's great, but there doesn't seem to be any interest in them. I don't get it! Vallotton made the first Al Mar auto and now he's made the first interesting auto for the "new" Al Mar so I like the symetry there. The quality is good. The SERE 2k is a good design with outstanding materials. Someone help me out here.

I don't own one nor have I handled one (have been curious though). But, I think that there are several reasons why there's no buzz about the knife. . .

1. Minimal promotional ads from the company

2. No promotional ads from dealers

3. Owners aren't talking them up

4. About the cost of a custom/handmade knife

I was wondering how secure the pivot release handle scale is since it is only held on at one point.

Mine has functioned flawlessly, It is a great knife, Very solid. The handle scales seem to be very sturdy, even though the front scale is held only by one screw.

Considering the number of cycles I've put mine through in auto mode I consider it as reliable as any of Butch's or the MT LCC. Since Chopra funded the first batch to get them made it might explain the lack of support from the company. Pitty. As far as near custom price is concerned, I understand that Butch pretty much guts the factory knife, reworks the scale for the new liner/sear, puts the new "tranny and engine" in and puts it all back together tweaking it all the way. Sounds semi-custom to me so I don't mind the semi-custom price. Do I wish that Al Mar let Butch produce his version of the knife, sure. Somehow I don't think that's going to happen.

My Vallotton SERE works GREAT except in reverse grip(tip down) auto opening I find that sometimes it opens so fast that it bounces back a little before the liner lock engages. It is the liner lock and the pivot screw that stops the spring that pushes the blade and if that spring gets ahead of the liner lock it will stop it from opening fully. It might not be something that will happen in all of them but it happens sometimes on mine. Its funny, as I write this and try to reproduce it, it doesn't happen, so it might've need some breaking in. In normal auto opening it opens swift and solid! I always wanted a SERE 2000 and when I saw this bad boy, that was it. It does have the semi custom price and is so close to the original given the price difference I can see why some might not go that route, but those of you who've handled one will know that it is worth every bit of it. Given the limited run I'm supprised that they are not numbered.

I think that dual action is the best! Rather have that over fully auto any day. If you CAN get one and can afford it I say that's the way to go!

Hey Allen, I'm sorry I didn't get to handle your SERE enough to appreciate it today, maybe next trip. But sure enjoying the Sebbie I picked up from you.
