I just purchased my first Emerson, it was an impulse buy. It is a PE coated Commander with a DA conversion by Butch Vallotton. I wanted a little more info on this knife.
Where these converted by Butch himself or did he design the feature for Emerson? Was it Emersons idea to have these converted? Or were these custom done without Emerson having anything to do with it?
I hope I did ok on the deal I paid $160 shipped, like I said it was an impulse buy. It is due to arrive tomorrow. I am anxious to see it, it will also be my first waved knife.

The Valloton convertions are not done by Emerson.
BV converts all sorts of different knives so I think its pretty much all his own doing.

Although I dont have one the BV converts I have seen were done very well and worked a treat.
I'm sure you will be happy with it

fastlt1nos,

Those Emerson Conversion Commanders were sold by Tad Gear (maybe others to)in late 2007. I unsderstand that it was an unautorized conversion, which also voided the warranty. I guess Tad Gear stands behind them if there is a problem.

I've seen other Emerson models that Butch has converted, but I never handled them. How's the quality on the conversion?

Also I've seen a couple Microtech Auto Commander out there. At onetime heard rumors of a collaboration with Tony, but never happened.

I got it today. I am very impressed with the quality. I functions flawlessly I am suprised by the close tolerances he was able to achieve as well as the simplicity of the design. It looks factory. Not sure if I can take it apart without having pieces flying out, anyone else know? It is a little big for me, I think if it was a mini it would be perfect. Thanks for all the info so far. :)
