Vallotton or Starmate?

I have a Vallotton. I lusted after it for a long time and finally found one. I like everything about it, except maybe the thickness of the blade. In the past I've looked at the Starmate and I've been thinking about them more lately. If anybody has both of these please tell me how they compare to you. Would I be going backwards by swapping a Vallotton for a Starmate? (And I'm not all that concerned about that little hickey on the bottom of the starmate blade tang.)

I had a Vallotton and get what you mean. The vallotton is a great looking knife, but not the most practical. I sold mine. The blade thickness is the same on both according to the Spyderco website, but the Starmate has a wider blade allowing for a shallower angle making it more practical. It's also 2 oz lighter or there abouts. I think for normal edc, the Starmate will be more practical. I've looked at the Starmate more than once. I think of it as a beefier Stretch.

I just ordered a vallotton

I have had a few Spyderco's and they make in my eyes very utilitarian, that knife looks so good i couldn't help it.
$175 later and it will be here Tuesday allegedly.

Kinda pissed i found out about this knife as it dips into the gun fund and i think i am hankering for a ppk

Vallaton. Taichung quality, awesome steel. Much more knife for the money, imo.

Consider the Spyderco Hungarian as well. It has oodles of aesthetics like Vallotton (polished G-10, SS bolster) but a 3.63" CTS-XHP FFG blade that's only 0.118" thick. Looks even better than in pictures: Hungarian Folder.

Here are the specs for Vallotton, Starmate and Hungarian:

The Hungarian is nice, and I love CTS-XHP, but it just looks like it came out of a broads dresser, if you 'nomsayin

The Valloton looks really rad. I feel like the Starmate would prove to be more useable and carry-able. I would say the Valloton wins in aesthetics.

Both are very pretty knives, but the Valloton is prettier. I'm partial to the Starmate, a buddy of mine carries one and likes it.
