The wife has gotten the urge now to get a Vallotton after seeing what Spyderco has to offer and with what I've purchased before (2 PM2s, Tenacious, Yojimbo 2, Dragonfly 2 Salt) but I am worried about the fit in pocket, finish and how it would look used and why the price on a CPM S30V? I'd expect better steel or better lock up, something. What the heck am I paying for?

You're paying for absolutely phenomenal fit and finish. The liner lock is one of the most solid I've ever seen, so I would house no concerns over that. I can understand the desire for a better steel at the price, but S30V is no slouch, and the thickness of the blade ends up giving you a really strong blade, along with the convexed tip. I assume S30V was chosen for workability with the dual grind. The knife is a little thick in the pocket, but carry it for a couple of days, and you'll get used to it. The finish of the knife overall, especially the polished G10, cannot be fully appreciated until you get one in hand. It's built like a tank, yet finished like a gentleman's knife - extremely unique, and in my opinion, worth the street price.

I owned this knife for few month. It is beautiful piece. F&F flawless. It is little bulky and heavy in the pocket. Also the blade quite thick behind the edge, so do not expect a great slicer.

IMO the best F&F of any Spyderco I've handled, and I've had hundreds. Very impressive. A little thick in the pocket but that's the trade-off for such a bulletproof build.
With a little reprofiling it's a much better slicer and maintains a nice razor sharp edge.

Here's a picture of my D/A Automatic conversion to give you an idea of the build and blade thickness.

It's a sweet knife as everyone has said. It is thick though and if it's going to be carried by a women wearing tighter pants with smaller pockets...

Great fit and finsh, i have seen 3. Only thing, it's big, be prepared.

When we talk big, I myself bought a Zero Tolerance ZT0561 that's a big beefy knife.

That's a good size reference. I'd give a nod to the Vallotton for pocketability. It is thick, but it is not very wide, when compared to an 0561.

It's a bit wide and heavy (I don't mean tall...I mean thickness), but if that doesn't bother you, you'd be hard pressed to find a more awesome exceptionally beefy and yet classy knife. It really does have one of the best F&F of my ~35 Spyderco collection, if not best, and it's one of the smoothest and most easily thumb flicked (My Chokwe, Sage3, and 204P PM2 are MARGINALLY more easily thumb flicked).
