Need to determine a fair price for this knife, but am woefully uneducated on its rarity or proper value. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

.
It looks like one of the Jungle Assaults without the serrations on the cutting edge and a custom handle. The regular ones went for about $1000 a couple of years ago.

Thanks - I know nothing or its past - its part of a trade that I have and wanted to give a fair value to him and me.

It is a problem to establish fair value on these special Custom Shop knives. The market for them is very thin, especially now. If you search for sales on SHBM, you will see that even standard ones are not moving very well.

The rams horn and g-rex handle looks pretty good on it, and the nuclear tip doesn't hurt either.

Both of these folks are correct here. On the one hand, the horn handle and nuclear tip would ordinarily command a premium if purchased direct from Busse (I presume due to the extra cost of materials and work grinding on the tip). Tipping the scale in the other direction is that the market for these was a bit smaller from the start due to the increased price point and decreased durability of the horn as compared to micarta. I'm certain that market has shrunk even more given the economy. I think I'd probably be ok with randucci's valuation unless you find someone who just has to have it, in which case you could probably ask a little more for it.

but that is what real hogs do, ask questions when they do not know, so they will not burn the next hog and have no regard for his so called brother and thus taking advantage of the buyer.

Randucci is completely wrong. That piece is a Chinese knock off. I will give you $100 for it, and you should consider your self lucky..................:D

I would normally say, that the straight handled battle mistress, variant, and nuclear version with a g-rex Rams horn handle would grab more than 1000.

Especially if there is custom leather with it.

Probably in the 1200 ish range, based on prices. The problem is, as others have said, that the market for the higher end is not as strong as it was just a year ago.

Honestly, I would probably not take less than 1200 or 1100 if I was selling it. Unless I was in need of the cash quicker. It looks mint. The real question is up to you, what are you getting in trade, and is it worth it to you?

Everything else is just talk. As long as you are not letting it go for super cheap........

If the trade value started approaching the 1000 mark or lower, though, I would probably look either keeping or selling.

Either way, awesome custom piece, and a real looker!

Yes, oddly enough someone would probably get more for a regular SHSJ then for an awesome SHBM like that. Times change quickly though.

The recurve might lower the price a tad too. I've noticed that they sit a little longer, unless of course that's exactly what a specific buyer is looking for. I would say a pretty accurate price for that knife now if you were to place it on the exchange today would be $800-$900.

Keep in mind that's now, and as others have said the secondary market for Busse's can shift quickly.

It's a nice knife, great scales, and it's a custom straight handled Battle Mistress with a nuclear tip!!! Over $1,000 shouldn't be a problem.

That is what I was thinking. The NMFBMLE's are going for 800-900 unused.

I just can't see that custom nuke straight handle rams horn G10 beaut going for less than the NMFBMLE's (as sweet as they are).

that knife is worth $1200-$1250 IMO. I remember the ganzaa it was in. Sweet piece for sure.

I remember that knife on the exchange for a while and it had to have a number of price drops before it sold ..... the post should still be out there if you search .... recollection has it for going less than $1000 .... it was teamed with a matching handle FSH and a much smaller blade .... public defender or something unusual .... the set got split up ....

Here is a link to the post .....

In that post the blades were not sold but later they surfaced as individual items IIRC .... I remember at the time being suprised that the custom shop extra work was not fetching the same money as the older painted versions ....
