Value? Case 6488 Congress Green Bone 1940 - 1964

Fake? What are the dimensions? Where did it come from?
This is an 88 pattern Case congress -

I'm no Case guru, but just at a glance, a few things seem to stand out to me.

I just looked at a bunch of pics of 6488s and couldn't find any with rounded bolsters like that - and are they slanted too? Because if they are, I also couldn't find a pic of a 6488 with that feature. The picture A Arathol posted looks a lot more like what I was able to find. Additionally, the long pulls seem kinda odd and the blades look so new - I know condition isn't an indicator of age - but, gee whiz...

Don't take my word for it though - I'm sure someone will be along to provide more reliable info.

Sorry I cannot add real wisdom here, but I love a congress pattern. If truely 60+ years old that beauty would be in shockingly good condition. Interested to see what the experts say. 🍿

Below is a CV 4 1/8" Case 6488 Congress. The year of manufacture for this knife is 1972 (8-dot). As seen in the below pictures, this knife has four different style blades (large sheepfoot, large spear, small coping, small pen). All four blades have half stops. It is interesting (to me anyway) that Case treats both the large Sheepfoot blade and the large Spear blade as master blades. Note that both blades have the same "Case Tang Stamp" on each blade. The bolsters are nickle-silver, the liners are brass, and the shield is pinned. Also, note that Case was still cutting a scallop in the frame and cover (both sides on this knife) for easier access to the nail nick for the two small blades when this knife was made.

I usually don't talk price in this forum but since Frank knarfeng knarfeng sent your post over here to Traditionals, I'll say I paid $388.00 for this knife in 2012. It's mint.

I am absolutely no Case expert, but a web search found this example which purports to be from 1940 to 1964 and also has squared bolsters.

And another

Squared bolsters and four different blade styles are the key here. The OP's knife has neither of those features which makes it a reworked/counterfeit knife to my way of thinking. To the best of my knowledge and references I have, the frame for the 6844 was the same throughout it's run right up until today.

OP TheSingingSharkOfWhales TheSingingSharkOfWhales - Please don't take this as a knock on your knife. Not trying to be negative, just trying to save you some grief down the line.

Closed length is just over 4.25 inches. It was part of a knife collector's hoard that had everything from junk to jewels, so who knows where it originally came from.
I think its safe to say that this is more towards the junk classification.....
Its kinds like George Washingtons hatchet.....The head has only been replaced once and the handle has been replaced twice. Other than that its 100% original.....

And we don't talk prices on this forum!!!
As a rule you're right Charlie waynorth waynorth but as I pointed out when I made my initial post, Frank sent it to Traditional knowing the question by the OP was about price. Also, the OP is a Gold member which gives some leeway when talking value/price. Anyway, I very very seldom talk price. At least some good information was passed along in the thread.
