Hi, I am new to the BladeForum and hope that someone can help me with the value of a Buck 110 Golden Eagle. It is marked 045/250 and was originally in an employee anniversary gift booklet from the company that my father works for, Ashland Oil (now owned by Marathon Oil). He gave this to me many years ago as I had a fascination with knives. I am not a collector, so I'm not quite sure what I am going to do with it at the moment.

Nice knife, I'm never right when I estimate value but I'd say someone may give you $100 without blinking.

The knife is from 1990. The blade is most likely 425M and the handle appears to be Macassar Ebony, a fine durable wood no longer used by Buck. If it is Ebony and not laminated obeecee orange wood, it is a good example of the production knives of the 425M era, with the bonus of the gold etch. The finger grooves are a bonus, too. It looks like it is in a nice wood display box, (another bonus). Was there any paperwork?

I think the $100. range is correct. More or less depending on the current market and interest.

Wolfdog has this one nailed. The 1990 blade is on a 1989 issued knife, that is called "Eagle Landing". The gold etch on this one was done by Baron, not Aurum.

Thanks for the replies. The only paperwork that I have is a 'business card'-sized certificate of authenticity.

I do not collect knives, and have been toting this knife around for some time, so I have been contemplating selling it to someone who will appreciate it.

Great looking knife . DM

Hi BaC,

Here is another gold etch eagle 110. It's a 1988 issue knife called "Bald Eagle", four color, this one was etched by Aurum. Note this is a 1988 issue knife and the blade stamp is a 1990 blade. It's not uncommon for the blades to be from a different year other than the issue date of the LE.

JB, You state Bulls eagle was done by Baron not Aurum a 89 knife and yours a 88 knife was done by Aurum . But Aurum was still doing etchings for Buck in 1989 . Did Baron just do a few ? As Buck started doing their own etchings in 91 or 92 in their plant in El Cajon .

Hi David,

I'm quoting the information as listed on the BCCI LE data sheet. I thought it is interesting that the OP's etch was not an Aurum gold etch. But, a Baron gold etch. Equally as interesting to me is the OP's knife blade was stamped with an X (1990) when the LE/SO issue for this knife was 1989 (per the data sheet) and only 250 knives in the issue. These knives must have been a late in the year order.

If you take a look at the LE/SO data sheet you will see that Baron did several Gold etch knives during this time period. I wish I knew more information as the LE/SO list does not always say who did the etch. We will have to wait for someone with much more knowledge on this topic Like Richard to help fill the gaps! Looking at the data sheet I have a few more gold etch's that were done by Baron, I had thought they were Aurum myself (Baron did fine work).

For those of you who are not BCCI members I suggest you join. There is a wealth of information on the BCCI web site, like the limited edition & special order knives. This data sheet covers LE/SO Buck knives made from 1970 thru 2006 (the last few years needs to be up-dated). Joe H put's out a LE/SO list for each year in the BCCI news letters, so the newer data is avalible it's just not been input into the data sheet yet.

JB, Thanks . Still, not all gaps filled in . I've tried and cannot open to look at that info. in the model history or catalogs . It takes a higher Acrobat reader than my PC is capable of downloading . So, I depend on you guys to fill me in on that history . Thats odd about Baron . Thanks again . DM

Hi Dave,

Sorry to hear that you can't open the data sheet. Maybe you can get someone to print the 100 or so pages and send them to you! The printed copy I am looking at was last up-dated by Richrad Matheny on 11/13/2006. I will post this info on Baron gold etch from the list. I may miss some and a lot of the etch info just stated Gold etch.

Anyway, here is the Baron info.
year Mod# Name or Theme
1987 110 The Brown Trout Gold etch
1987 110 World Record Bass Gold etch
1988 110 Red Jacket Pumps Electroetch
1988 110 Large Mouth Bass Gold etch
1989 110 Koala Bears (samples) Gold etch
1989 110 Eagle Landing Gold etch
1990 103 Rocky MT Elk Foundation Gold etch
1990 110 USS Arizona Gold etch
1990 110 Wyoming's 100th Gold etch
1990 119 Rocky MT Elk Foundation Gold etch

Aurum did way more during these years and many don't say who did the work.
