I have one made the same year with a satin finished blade and it was around 165 discounted at the time of purchase. If I sold it for 150 it would be less than what it cost new 10 years ago.

The older Microtechs seem to bring more money.

NIB probably $160 to $200+. Without box may not matter. Sheath is nice to have. Seems to be who wants it most on how much it'll bring. Also, it has been said the older ones were better made, not to mention the regular fasteners used to put them together.

$150 for a quick sell, only. Remember, that price range is the "iffy" area, i.e. buyers have to think about it for a bit.

ya might could put it on ebay and get more but imho it would be hard to get much over $150.

i sold a LNIB manual socom a couple yrs ago, a tanto, IIRC i got $120 for it.

of course the autos are a lot higher, socom elites are more expensive and imho more desirable too.

also for a collector to give top dollar, it must be LNIB and have a box.

if i had a nickle for every knife i lost $$ on i could buy a knife lol, probably a custom emerson at that..........

FWIW very few knives will escalate in value, imho a std variety manual socom probably isnt one of them, now a special edition/run, or an auto, or a socom elite, different story maybe. i said maybe. to make $$ ya gotta get a deal on it to begin with, very few will exceed retail price, ever.

also, imho, MT has so many special runs, special editions, claw logo this, dagger logo that, its kinda lessened the uniqueness of the special stuff, ie they are imho trying to make everything special, and that dog dont hunt.

i have a '99 SOCOM elite brend grind blade manual action FWIW, i wonder what they bring now??? anyone seen one sold lately?? i havent seen one sell in yrs FWIW.

That depends on the maker and price range. Almost no production knives appreciate in value, but it's easy to find custom buys that will greatly reward your investment. A well thought out Busse custom, Jay Fisher, Gil Hibben, or some of the regular makers here can be counted on to put money in your pocket (assuming you don't grow too fond of it).

Mine is like new with it's plastic case, all papers and the sheath. Yes, I've noticed M/T manual folders don't seem to be "hot items" in the exchange. (as far as selling fast and bringing more than they cost new) I like the knife, it's light, has good size, well made, locks up solid and with a very sharp factory edge. So I never considered selling it anyway.
One knife I have that I've seen on eBay for way more than it cost new is the Spyderco Civilian, with the aluminum handles. Here it seems to be a slow seller and doesn't bring as much as it cost new. Now my Starmate, I've had people here offer me way over 200 for and when I didn't sale they kept trying to offer a little more till they gave up. (i never had it for sale in the first place, they just saw it's picture) Spyderco's that people like when they are discontinued seem to go up faster than any other production folder. (At least on this forum)

i dont know of any customs which escalate much other than onion, mayo, emerson, perhaps snody. by escalate i mean ya buy it from the 'smith for $500 and because of demand ya can immediately sell it for $1000 or more. plenty of great 'smiths (ie crawford, elishiwitz, nealy, pardue, bob T, etc) work isnt in demand enough to do that.

i dont know about hibben, thats debatable lol.

i have had a couple of spyderco starmates and never saw the big draw, my last starmate (which i paid ~$90 for, IIRC) i swapped for a bud nealy pesh kebz, even, never have missed the starmate either lol. they do bring a dollar though.

the manual SOCOM's and SOCOM elites are, imho, great knives, my 1st really expensive knife was a tanto MA SOCOM and i used to collect them and other MTs, like the LCC for example,

Hello
I am really not up to speed on all of the microtech products, but I just checked my socom m/a and it was made in 6/97 and it was one of the one's made from ats 34. You may want to check the blade steel because at some point around '97, '98 or so microtech decided to use only american made materials, steel, micarta etc. This may have some effect on the value to someone, possibly an insurance claims adjuster. i dunno. Just a thought.

I love that Snody posts pics of his knives here. I'm a big fan of his sweet money style, but I'm too damn broke to actually buy a knife from him. Mayo is also a regular here and I'm pretty sure I've also seen Ken Onion post here before.

oh yes they do all post here from time to time, they all make some nice knives for sure.
