Value of 8OT's in clam pack

Hi Everyone:

Please indulge a very pedestrian inquiry. I'm very new to Schrades, and I'm starting out amassing some of the classic brown sawcut delrin OT Ellenville patterns in carbon steel. They are still pretty common and inexpensive but eventually won't be, in my layperson's opinion.

I recently bid on a couple 8OT's (4" stockman) Ellenville USA in high carbon that were still in the sealed clam packs. The cardboard insert was blue. There's no reason I'm aware of to suggest they are more than a couple years old.

I dropped out of the bidding on each of these when they got to about $32, and in each case they went for about $34, which would have been about $40 shipped.

Does anyone have an opinion whether I could have gone higher and still gotten a good value? If I see any more of these I may try again.

Thanks for any feedback.

Regards,

Jim

Jim,
As is often said here, the knife is worth what you are willing to pay for it. To put it in context, the MSRP $37.95 when Schrade closed. Usually I find them for less than that. My best buy for a new 8OT in clampack was $9.98 on close out. If I find a store with old stock not on sale, I expect to pay close to the $37.95 price.

Since it is hard to find a new one in a store, the $40.00 price is not too far off the mark. Of course, the lower the price the better.

Thanks Dale, that gives me a pretty clear idea. I didn't know what MSRP on it was.

I'm also scouting K-marts for USA Schrades on close out, but haven't had any luck yet.

Thanks again,

Jim
