I may be trading into a large regular sebenza th a cgg in either s30v or bg-42, not sure on steel, and am trying to gauge the value so i dont overspend. Any help is greatly appreciated. As far as i know its the knife only no original goodies.

The steel makes a large difference in the value, with bg42 being more valued. Not having the card and box hit the value quite a bit, and I personally would be very leary of a knife for sale without them. (depending on the seller) What is the graphic?
I know I didn't answer your question, but details are needed:)

Its a very reputable seller. And there is no way of knowing the steel hence me listing both ;)

Its a maple leaf graphic

If you get a picture of the blade or the inside of the scales you can ID the blade steel. The s30 blades have an "s" on them, the ats34 and bg42 blades are unmarked. If you can see the date markings that would help also, the change between steels is always going to be gradual, but if it is 2000 or earlier than you for sure have bg42 since the change to s30 happened in 01. You can also do a search for that specific graphic because some were only made during a certain time period.
If you post a picture here we might be also able to give you more information.

So any one know the value for each steel? (Ballpark figure is fine)
That would be most helpful, so i know whether or not to obtain it for the asking price.

The history lesson is appreciated, but does not answer my question.

As stated above, you can determine the blade steel. I really haven't seen any maple leaf scaled knives for sale(they may have been from the BG-42 era). I presume they were pretty popular with Canadian members. Large Plain Jane Regulars in S30V seem to start around $400 and BG-42 around $600, from what I have seen. The CGG may add or detract to that depending on how popular it was. I have seen some real deals on CGG and UG regulars.

Thank you Peter. It is going for $500 so after tax im looking closer to $600. Dont think im going to move forward on it.

Condition is also a big factor in price. Lack of box and or papers is a deduction
I should mention-prices on the regulars are all over the place. A BNIB S30V may sell for $400 on the exchange one day and a used one on Ebay may go for close to $600 the next.
