Value of a Lost Badger?

Could you guys give me an idea of the replacement cost of a Badger Attack E, and how to prove that replacement cost? The reason is that I shipped it to get some Kydex pants, and UPS lost it. Now they want me to prove replacement cost for reimbursment. I explained that the knife is no longer in production, but they still want something. I paid 237, and I insured it for 250. Any ideas? Thanks. :grumpy:

YES!!!
You could probably get a written letter from the Busse Co.
OR you might be able to get away with a print out of original costs from the Bad mojo site. (it might or might not be on there, I'll check)

I'd go through the old for sale posts here on BF and print out asking and selling prices of the ones that have sold. Of course a lot of those prices have been edited out when they were sold, but you may find some of them that still have the prices listed and that are listed as sold. I hope this helps.

(I really wish that people would leave the prices on their for sale posts after the knife sold, especially for reasons such as this)

Thanks I'll try that first. Then I'll direct them to the site and they can research the claim themselves.

It has 2 prices,
(look at the bottom of that page, not the estimated prices at the top)
one has the E price,
and the other says "3" price,
What does that mean, anyone?

Walking Man -- There was the BA, the BA-E, and then came the BA-3 (3rd generation).

Sweet Satan on a Pogo Stick. Guess someone got a new letter opener.

In my book, a letter from Busse would be most believeable. If you asked nicely, I'm sure you could get them to mention the model has been discontinued and tack on a higher replacement estimate.

Failing that, printout from the forum site, EPray, or perhaps even our own resident Busse reseller and appraiser, Idahoskunk. Since the last is in charge of the company store, his opinion might even stand in court (perhaps sit, depending on the status of the JWB bribe, see post on Jerry's phone number)

I know of an offering for a used one for just under $250.

The "re-releases" from Blade '03 were $397 so as not to affect natural secondary market conditions.

IMHO, do a search on the Exchange forums, as well as other "knife forums" to see if you can get a ballpark market value.

I do not feel that the $250 value is far from actual market.

Take a poll on this forum. Ask how many BA-E owners would sell their mint BA-E for $250. Put me down as a "no".

From memory I paid $250.00 for mine in 2002.
Not with the sheath pictured, it had the original nylon sheath with a kydex insert..
