Hi Forum,

I stumbled this forum in search of a value/pricing to sell a Benchmade (Emerson) 970SBT knife.

Apparently it's a discontinued/limited model that is kind of hard to find anywhere online. How much do you think is the market value of this knife, coming in mint condition (Unfortunately I have no clue about knifes, guns etc. and I never used it - received it as 'payment' for my first summer job), with all papers, warranty, box etc.

And what would be a good place to sell it? eBay? Amazon, Craigslist or through bladeforums?

I also took some pictures of the item as I'm not 100% sure if that's the model :)

I think my previous posting got deleted because I'm not allowed to sell here without a paying membership *Bummer* - I'm sorry, I didn't know that...

they generally sell for $100.00-$150.00 or so.

yours is the most common 970.

the least common seems to be a plain edge, black blade.

Hey, thanks Morimotom!

Really appreciate!
Just a last question: Where would you sell it?

best

no problem.

me, i would pay the gold membership and sell here. i think you'll find the dues are well worth the return, especially if you intend to sell other stuff. members are able to sell all sorts of stuff, not just knives.

you could try ebay. but in the end, i think you end up ahead here. the fee (membership) to sell is only once a year, and you aren't charged per sale.

if you already sell regularly on ebay, it may be easier for you to sell there. and the auction style may bring a better return on any particular item.

you may not be a knifenut now, but stick around. its a bug.

i just noticed you call it the sbt.

the 970 st is a titanium bladed version, and is worth a bit more.

do you have pics of the flat side of the blade?

Hey, thanks for the nice welcome and feedback! I took some pictures right now. To me it looks kinda 'titanum-like' :-)

here's the result:

I hope you can see details - if not I can retake them...

cheers

If it's the Ti version, I think it may be worth $200+. As to whether it's Ti or not, you can easily check it with a magnet (Ti not magnetic).

I believe the PE models are the rarest (Coated PE being the most rare). I have an uncoated PE 975 (Super CQC7). Nice knife, although I tend to not collect, so I might get rid of it.

i dont remember all the model designations, but yours looks like it may be the titanium bladed version.

it has a distinctly different finish on the edge of the flat side of the blade.

if so, i would put the value at about $250 or so.

Hey, cool! I didn't know it was of that much value!
It's not magnetic and to me it looks kind of 'titanium like'...

thanks everybody for your input in this discussion!

Thanks a lot for your feedback, guys! I finally decided to post it on eBay as I'm not a knife-nut yet :)
and to target a broader audience...

if I change my mind one day I'll definitely dig to join this friendly and helpful community!

BTW if anybody is interested about the future of this knife check my listing :)

(( do not post links to live auctions ))

Peace

It's actually a Benchmade Emerson 970ST, that's a rare model and here's what I found in it's description:

Rare Benchmade 970ST. Blade is partially serrated titanium with a Sharptek tungsten tantalum carbide treatment on the cutting edge to increase the cutting ability. Handles are G10 with titanium lock & liners.

According to Benchmade, it was built at the request of a military organization who needed a strong, lightweight, non magnetic, non corrosive, folding prybar with some limited cutting ability for use as an emergency tool in a corrosive environments.

It looks exactly the same and like I mentioned before it's NOT magnetic.

key word

Bought mine in 1996 at a gun show outside of Atlanta, GA while I was in Glyco Georga going through the U.S. Customs Academy. I carried it as my every day knife on and off duty at San Ysidro. Sadly I lost it in a truck I was searching in North Dakota while I was there on a TDY immediately after 9/11. Actually it was Sept 12th 2001 at about 1500 when I noticed that it was missing from my pocket and I just got finished crawling out of the back of a 40 ft big rig. Damn I was pissed!!!

"request of a military organization" = U.S. Navy Seals
