A friend is considering selling some knives (oops, didn't realize I couldn't post a pic, guess it will just be text). He asked me what I thought they were worth and I have no idea because I think there might be an additional collectible factor due to a couple of factors.

The owner said the knives were purchased around 1980 in the USA. The first two immediately caught my eye and third one is kind of neat:
  • Puma "White Hunter" with wood grip panels, leather sheath
  • Gerber "Paul Knife" folder with wood grip panels, sheath and case. Looks a lot like this one: on eBay. I guess he can get an idea from that auction in about two days. :p
  • Cold Steel Tanto. He said it was one of the earlier ones made in Japan. It has a black leather sheath and has a 14.5 cm (5-3/4") blade.
  • Cold Steel push knife. It does not have the rubber grip the current ones do. It has a leather sheath with a flap that snaps shut. On the non-flap end it has a grommet through which a ring with a short chain is attached.
  • An SOS knife that is interesting because a folding metal contraption is supposed to swing around and cover the blade so you can hold it by the blade end and use the holes in the grip to wrench bolts. Maybe it's okay, but I'd be real nervous about putting any real pressure on it.
  • An unremarkable looking Gerber folding utility clip knife with a sliding switch lock release and plain 4" spear point blade.
EDIT: He doesn't think they have ever been sharpened. He said some blades have some light scratches possibly from handling (they looked really clean in the pictures, I doubt they've been used or carried much if at all).

Any way... any opinions on what they a reasonable asking price would be for these knives?

I think the most accurate way to value those knives is by looking at eBay. You can do a Completed Items search to see the closing prices and bidder interest of past auctions.

Upload your pictures to a photo-hosting website like www.photobucket.com then insert the photos' links into your forum topic.
Or, paying members can upload photos to BladeForums directly.

Also, an FYI, if you are soliciting buyers for those knives, that is not allowed without a paid membership.

Photobucket! That was the name I was trying to remember. I looked at imageshack and I was a little iffy with one of their policies (the no deleting policy) and lack of site documentation (I got the vibe it was a European site) so I decided not to use them. Thx!

Here is a link to the pic at photobucket: Photo at Photobucket.

Thx for the tip, I think he said he tried eBay, but I'll give it a whirl and see what I can find. Maybe he didn't do the completed auction thing.

Still, ebay is the best place to check for used values; your friend isn't going to be able to sell those for as much as the current retail prices.

Regarding that Paul Knife, something to keep in mind is that they were made during two different time periods, so when comparing to eBay knives make sure it's the same series as friend's. Your friend's Paul knife looks like the newer model, but I'm not certain.
