What year is the 124??? The Nemo is a good one (I want it) You should look on ebay to see what they are going for... The Trio goes for $100- Up to $200 New... All your knives are sweet that you got... Any pics of the knives, Boxes and marking would help... Good Luck... Someone will be here soon too tell you more... ITE ...

It is little hard to determine a value of either your 124 or your Nemo without pictures. 124s were made for many years and the value varies with many features and the age of the knife. The same is true of the Nemo. Does it have the Nemo sheath? Does it have a serrated blade? Does it have a one piece phenolic handle or a two piece handle. How do you know it is a Nemo? All of these features and variations within those features almost require pictures.

The Nemo does has the sheath, has a 2 piece handle,I think I had it for maybe
40 or more years. Dick

The top Frontiersman/Nemo (with considerable magnification of the picture) reveals that it has the wide grain grey-black micarta scales. I believe that that form of micarta only appeared in 1971-1973. The interesting part is that in 1971 and 1972 they were only made with partially serrated blades. 1973, however had a partially serrated 122 and a plain blade 124. Yours is a plain blade. I cannot make out the stamp at the base of the blade so cannot tell if it was a 1973. Variants have appeared from what I have said above, so it would be interesting to know what the stamp on the blade says. Also, whether it is read with the tip of the blade pointing down or up. If it is just "BUCK USA" it is 1971.

The other knife (again under considerable magnification) appears to have the date stamp, BUCK 124 USA along with a lanyard hole in the pommel and plain edge. That would date it to 1973.

Which knife came with the plastic Nemo diver's sheath?

Also, if I recall, you say you have the boxes for the knives. If so, what does it say on the end of the box for each knife?

A look at some of the current knives for sale on the great auction site might give you some additional ideas concerning value.

I don't know what any of these guys are talking about, those knives arn't worth evry much at all. But, if you were wanting to get rid of them I'd take them off of your hands for a few bucks,no pun intended.

Sir,The letter on the NEMO reads blade pouting down BUCK USA.
Letters the 124 reads blade pouting up BUCK 124 USA.
124 box" Frontiersman model 124"also the registration paper has a 1/73 on it.
Also it seems like I bought the NEMO some time in the 1950`s when GART BROs.
was moving from Laramie St.to Broadway St. (in Denver)Also the Nemo came with the plastic sheath. Thanks
Dick

The Nemo, with the BUCK USA was made in either 1967 or 1968 if it has bone hard red fiber spacers on the handle. If it has red micarta spacers, it was made in 1969 or 1970. It is doubtful that you bought it in the 1950s since the 124 was first introduced in 1967 and the first few had white teflon spacers. BUCK did not incorporate until 1961.

Your other 124 was made in 1973.

Nice knives especially in mint condition.

I have looked again at your pictures and have to correct all of my previous statements in my last post.

The BUCK USA knife has the wide grain grey black micarta scales. I mistook your description for a much earlier knife. That is definitely a 1971 knife but is most interesting in that the data sheet shows that in that year they only made them with partially serrated edge. Yours is not. The sheet shows that it is only a 122, which is the number for a Nemo. The non-serrated edge may be quite unusual.

The one stamped BUCK 124 USA is still a 1973 knife.

Sorry for the misinformation. I was thinking that the BUCK USA knife was a one piece phenolic handle and thus did have spacers. I just didn't not refresh my memory from the pictures you provided.

Hi Tel,

Why don't you post some photo's of your 124/122's so the OP and some of the others here will understand what you are telling them. I know you have a wonderful collection of this model Buck knife;).

JB:

I do not have a 1971 BUCK USA 122. I do however have a 1972 124 which should be identical to the 1971. The significant difference is the fact that although even Joe's data sheet does not indicate that the 71s were ever made without a partially serrated blade, VRICHARD's knife clearly is one.

My 72 knife clearly shows the Grey-black wide grain Buckarta (micarta) scales, partially serrated blade and the stainless guard and pommel. It is the one on the left in the below picture.

As far as VRICHARD's late 1973 124, that is, I believe, the first time BUCK built the 122/124 with aluminum guard and pommel. It has the tight grain black Buckarta (micarta) scales. It appears as the middle knife in the below picture.

The one on the right represents my mistaken statement to VRICHARD concerning his knife when I relied upon my senior moment memory and did not look again at his pictures. I thought he had one of the early BUCK USA 122/124s with the one piece phenolic handle and the bone hard red spacers. That is one made in the first year of production, 1967. It was, however, not the first model manufactured that year. The first one had white teflon spacers. I did not photograph my white teflon 122/124 but there are excellent examples posted in this forum at an earlier time.

Thanks Tele. for the great supporting photo and write up . So, these are 1971/72, 1973 and 67 . DM

You guys cause my pulse rate to go up just looking at your photos . If I had known 30yrs. ago what I know now my collection would express some earlier examples . But I'm grateful for what I do have . Thanks for the great photos . DM

Thanks Tel & Jerry,

You guys have some fantastic knives, thanks for sharing your photo's and knowledge with the folks here.

I was just thinking that if HKINGDOM, whose 122/124 collection is very extensive, doesn't have a 1971 122 and I don't and the data sheet shows only a serrated blade, VRICHARD, your unserrated 1971 122 may be possibly a quite rare knife. Being mint with sheath and box makes it even more valuable.

It really would be great if you could remove it from your display and photograph it, the sheath and the box (especially the catalog end of the box).
