Valuing a custom knife?

I am interested in selling a custom knife yet I only have a vague idea of its current value (This from asking some general questions and sending photos of it to various sources, I was told that it is worth approximately $600). Is there a general standard operating procedure for having it appraised and then putting it up for sale? How is it done on Bladeforums? thank you in advance.

The exact value of a custom knife is often hard to estimate. It depends on a lot of things. Is the maker still making knives? How long of a wait to get one like the one you're selling? What condition is it in?
If you know any knife purveyors, they could usually give you a good idea of what the knife will sell for. You could look at various sites on the internet and see if anything similar is being sold. Bernard Levine's book could be helpful. You could also look at the result's of J. Bruce Voyle's auctions or catalogues such as Nortwest Knives to get some ideas.
