As a custom knife collector, my tastes run a rather wide gambit of the whole knife collecting spectrum. One of my favorite style of knife is the dagger.
Recently, on EBay, a Van Barnett dagger was offered and after some communication with the seller etc, I was able to make a bid and win this fine example of work that Van was doing prior to his joining the Knifemakers Guild.
Van first came to prominence at the time of his first showing at a Guild show, 1997 Las Vegas (Phyllis and I attended that show) and he was the winner of the Cronk Award. No first time maker had done that previously. He has also won the award 2 years later.
This particular dagger made around summer of '92, had a OAL of 15 1/2" with a 440C blade of 9 3/4" with the widest part of the blade being 2". The quillons and pommel are of 416 SS and the handle is Fluted Dendritic Soapstone. All work is sole authorship including engraving.
Van is also now one of the 25 members of AKI. It was a pleasure to be able to add this fine dagger to my collection.
