Hey guys,
I just bought a used hatchet with Van Camph&I./Co. stamped inside an oval on the head as well as VANCO Industries. Anybody hear of this company and know where and when it operated? Also, I am looking for used axes, hatchets, or just heads by Bluegrass, Keen Kutter, or Kelly. I live near Richmond, KY and grew up around Bluegrass and Keen Kutter. Bluegrass was made by Belknap in Louisville, Ky so was common around here until Belknap went under in 1986. Mostly I am looking for bargains as users but may become so obsessed as to become a "collector." even though I hate to do that even to my knives. I would like to hear from anyone with info or opinions on these old tools, especially about how to find them. My hunt started when somebody broke into my shed and stole my chainsaw, which I had not needed lately anyway. When I needed to get rid of a few dead shrubs and small trees, I thought, Oh well, I'll just use an axe. Then I remembered they had also taken both of my granddad's axes and my splitting maul. Not to be bitter, but I hope the theif freezes this winter. It wan't much of a chainsaw, but they don't make axes like that anymore.
