Hey guys,

I'm looking for some information about this steel. I have used the search function and would still like some input.

I'm really looking to hear some comparisons between the Vanax and M390, my current favorite super steel.

More specifically, which is more corrosion resistant?

Man, I feel dumb now as I just opted for M390 over Vanax 37 because the search I did resulted in:

Edge Retention: M390>Vanax 37
Corrosion Resistance: Vanax 37>M390

Since M390 is stainless enough for my uses and environment, I went with it. Guess my next 111 will be in Vanax 37 if it is has super edge retention.

Don't worry. You picked an awesome steel, and I'm a Vanax SuperClean lover. I think M390 will be slightly better on edge retention, but it's close. Vanax will be more stain resistant, probably more than you need. Vanax will be tougher -- more resistant to chips and breaks.

I use Vanax SC daily (thanks to Josh who rebladed my Rukus in Vanax), and it's a wonderful and superbly well balanced steel that is fine grained and easy to resharpen. It's awesome. But so is M390. So is Elmax.

You're good.

Vanax SC is awesome!! As Twindog says, it will have almost as good edge retention as m390, but be more stainless and a lot tougher.

ShannonSteelLabs ShannonSteelLabs and @DeadboxHero know a lot about it.

How Vanax fits in with other steels

Vanax likely has similar corrosion resistance to H1. H1 may be a little better, couldn't say for sure without experiments. M390 has better edge retention but is not as tough. M390 is capable of higher hardness.

Cool then, just was I was looking for. In small folders I prioritize edge retention over all else. I've yet to find a "stainless" that gives me issues where I live and I only care about toughness on fixed blades since I don't bend or beat on folding knives.
