Just curiosity here...

Does Buck plan to keep producing the Buck Vanguard and the Buck Zipper in ATS-34?

In an older post in which I inquired about the Zipper, CJ Buck noted, "The ATS-34 blade was a special run for Bass Pro. It sold pretty well for them." I'm wondering if the past tense here means that the ATS-34 knives involved a one-time limited run.

I bought an ATS-34 Zipper a while back and had my eye on a Vanguard. Then I noticed the Zipper was gone from Bass Pro Shop's website. I called my local store, and they said they probably would not get any more Zippers or Vanguards.

I bit. Today, I went ahead and ordered the Vanguard in ATS-34 from Bass Pro's web store.

I guess I'm just wondering if I could have waited. I'm also wondering if these knives will be available should I want to recommend them to others.

I bought the Zipper in the ATS-34 at Bass Pro, as well. Awesome knife. I'd love to see more models in that steel.

Got the Vanguard today. Excellent craftsmanship. Outstanding knife.

I'll keep the Zipper in ATS-34 and experiment with it. I'm sort of new to gut hooks/zipper blades. But this Vanguard strikes me as a knife I know I'll use for the rest of my life.

It's a no frills working man's knife. Perfect size and blade shape with the bonus of high end steel. Not too big. Not too small. The no-slip handle is important to field dressing, and the knife features a good brass guard for a little extra protection. Overall, it has a great balance with just enough heft to make you feel like you have a quality tool in your hand.

The only down side here involves the sheath. However, I'll happily pay a little extra for a custom sheath for this knife. With a good kydex custom sheath, this one would be a go-anywhere field knife that could double as a survival blade.

Kudos to Buck on a job well done here. If it was a limited run, I recommend that folks pick one up from the Bass Pro website before they're all gone. You can't beat the edge on this ATS-34.

If you like you Vanguard enough there is another good one to get, and that is the one with the IonFusion blade. It will keep on cutting, and cutting, and cutting.

 :thumbdn: I've got two good ionfusion preformers and one the ionfusion coating started coming off on. I think the coating is supposed to keep the knife sharper 5 times longer than regular. Be careful though, Buck doesn't warranty the coating! Even though the same warranty paperwork comes in the box.
