A friend told me today that he saw the Buck Vanguard in BG42. He said that the scales looked like iron wood or elder wood. I could find no reference to it on the web. Could this be a boutique Vanguard run or was he just mistaken?

There sure were BG-42 Vanguards, Soleil, however they were green handled Master Series 192s from the '98 run of such. Now- sometimes blades are left over and get a typical handle or something more mundane than the special run when it ceases. PERHAPS a BG blade got a regular handle and shipped as a production 192 or the lunchbox senario could be at play. Once in a while you will find a Buck with a mirror polished blade and a regular handle as in the above. I have a couple of 119s that are very Special (pun intended) with phenolic or laminated birch and were sold as plain-janes. It happens. Without seeing the Vanguard in question....... go find it and buy it!

What would be wrong with a BG-bladed 192?

I was able to find a couple of the Bg 42 vanguards a few years back. The ones I bought were master series overruns with smooth french green handles,a great looking knife.I gave one to each of my sons for Christmas.

I believe I read that there were less than a100 of the 192 master series BG42 steel overuns made.

Went today to check them out. They are Master Series blades in either Iron or Elder wood. Mirror finish with great F&F. The wood is a little duller in some spots than others. They are marked 192MS with a smallish U after the MS. They had 3, I picked up 2. They also have 3 BG42 Zippers with the laminate wood handles. I think they are the ones made for Cabelas as they are marked "custom" on the stamp. I am not a big fan of the Zipper blade style and did not get any.

The shop owner said he just ordered these in and they showed up last week. He was not sure if he could get more. I would guess that the price may go up if he realizes what he has. The date on the box bar code label is 08/11/2008. Maybe a reissue of overruns?
