Its been a couple years now since I left a rubber buckie Vanguard AG S30V in Moms knife drawer, along with a couple of 470's and a 471.

I asked her about it the other day as she was loading it into the dishwasher since I hadn't seen her using the others.

She said she likes it best because it is the sharpest. Tells me I need to get the 470's and 471 sharpened up. And will touch up the Vanguard as well.

It is the model without the zipper. After no telling how many trips through the dishwasher and no telling what she has cut with it, it is in excellent shape.

Not a bit of deterioration of the rubber handle or the black on the blade. I saw no chips or dings in the blade.

And, the two 470 Mentors and the 471 whatever its called are holding up as well. No ill effect of the dishwasher on any of them.

Maybe I will get around to shooting some pics of them.

So for those of you that remember my yearly Vanguard update, it and the rubber handled mentors are doing great.

For the background....Mom lives in the small town where our hunting place is. Couple of years ago, I discovered that I just didn't like using the Vanguard on my deer doins. just wasn't used to the drop blade after years and years of a clip 110. So I left it in Moms knife drawer just to see how it would fare with kitchen use. And boy does Mom love to cook. And it was pretty funny watching her when I told her what I paid for it. She tried to give it back. Unfortunately, I will get it back someday full of great memories and it will go with my Dads Idaho 110 and my ancient old two dot that I bought so many years ago. Mom is 84 and I am definitely not wanting to get it back any time soon.

Thanks for the reminder to appreciate who we have with us.

As to the Vanguard update - I always *knew* this was a good knife, but never had the spare $ to put down for one - always something else vying for my "allowance". It's not an expensive knife as knives go, but true to Buck quality design and materials it's a bargain all the same.

Great report, PR! I love reading real life stories. I hope your Mom kicks 90 in the arse and looks for more.
