I’ve had a pristine Vanguard for 6-7 years. The knife is so beautiful I’ve avoided using it for fear of scratching or otherwise marring it up somehow. I just took delivery on this 685 as a user in place of the Vanguard. The measurements are almost identical and the 685 fits perfectly in the custom sheath I bought years ago for the Vanguard. It’s indescribable how happy am.

Congratulations on your new Buck. I do get that the 685 is cheaper. Still, you could have just bought another Vanguard for a user. If you wanted a rubber handle get the 692 Vanguard for a bit less.
Thanks for the reply. So far I’m happy with the 685, it fits my hand very well. I thought about what you suggest I even searched this forum for a place to buy a knockoff. New Vanguards are >$100 and the rubber version $80+. The 685 is $30 shipped. Believe me I mulled it over for weeks before pulling the trigger on the 685. I do not have unlimited budget to buy knives.

no knock off needed..ya got that 685. good enough and still Bucks lifetime warranty and proper heat treat. knockoffs are a waste of good money.

if ya hunt the Buck for sale forum, sometimes folks let stuff go at used prices that are brand new basically. it's hit and miss but deals pop up from time to time.
