Has anyone else ever seen a Vanguard blade chipped out like this? I know of one other, he was dressing out a deer and when he nicked a bone he heard a ping and a perfectly smooth semicircular part of the blade popped out. Same place. BUCK replaced it for him.

I clearly hit a sore spot with the seller.... his response about it hurt my feelings.

"Hello a** ****, it is obvious you are not familiar with this knife. This is not a broken place in this blade. This knife is made with this "cut out" as a safety feature, to place the users finger, so it will not slide into the cutting edge"

I need to update my collection. I have 36 Vanguards but do not have this variation yet.... ;)

I have two things to say....that is QUITE a safety feature (can't believe all the manufacturers aren't using it), and his comments would not have hurt my feelings. I've got friends that call me worse things than that!!

Oooops, that's more than two things I've said. :)

I can think of only one Buck knife where the blade was deliberately shaped for a choked up hold, the 477 Caping knife. It's a small knife.

I have only four Vanguards and none have this safety feature. Need to get looking!

LOL,

That's too funny! I ran into a guy selling some Buck Kalinga's at a local gun show. They also had that fantastic looking "safety cut out" this guy called them Custom! He also wanted big coin for them, he was mad as hell when I told him the blades were trash as a result of that "Custom work".

Update. eBay is a funny place. The knife sold today, a 19 year old knife with a tatty sheath and the "safety notch" in the blade for the cost of a new one. $69.99. I don't know why this one bothers me so much.

That is quite a choil! :)

The level of salesmanship/confidence artist I find can be sad. I pointed out a fake/counterfeit buck to a vendor & received this, edited by me, response plus a warning from the auction site that I had violated member to member communication policy which could earn me the boot:

Dear my name,

Here istead of sitting around looking in someone elses business gain some knowledge. Read about all the Buck knives and Smith & Wesson knives made in China

Removed link to member posted blather about Buck history.

Don't expect an apology from you, *** ****.

I did a quick inaccurate calculation once and came up with about 3% of "Buck" knives on eBay are counterfit. I think it's getting worse with more sellers located in the states now.

I waiting for the eBay buyer of the 191 in this thread to show up on this site as a new poster with a question about a rare variation knife he just purchased and wanting more information..... :D

I just searched under key words "buck knife" 200 hits on the page and 59 were fake/counterfeit or $30% not real Buck knives. The auction site changed its rules to protect sellers of fakes from getting told the truth from other members so contact without intent to buy is not allowed.

You caught the seller red-handed who became angry, then sullen, then afraid and then bot it himself because they are not a hardened criminal yet perhaps. Nah. Probably bot by someone really in to choils in a big way. Thanks for this thread. The odd ones can be fun as proven by Craig's 300 series collection.
