Vanished sales thread and member who was selling unfindable

Hello,

I was looking at purchasing a custom Emerson folder listed by a member. After following up with the member with an email to contact them it looks as though the post was taken down and the member is no longer detectable to PM. I'm just looking for some information on if the member has had the account deleted or if they've gone silent. A friend who is a gold member attempted to view their profile and also cannot. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I'll link the thread and member profile below.

I could be wrong, but I believe he has had his profile blocked to members for a while. The ad is there, the link worked, and the option to message him is there.
You felt compelled to initiate a thread about him disappearing/going dark a mere 3hrs after you provided your email? I don't know where either of you live; but you posted your email a little before midnight, eastern time - did you consider that maybe he didn't respond because he'd gone to bed?

You're new...probably registered just to buy this knife. Some people are disinclined to deal with brand new accounts, especially when the knives are high dollar; and this thread makes you look like an impatient pain in the butt (read: not the kind of person people want to deal with). I get that you want the knife; but relax a little.

No posts were taken down, let me explain what happened.

colubrid originally listed the Custom Emerson for sale on July 1st, he then relisted the knife again yesterday which is a violation of the Exchange rules... you have to wait 14 days before relisting a knife/item for sale a second time. The for sale thread from yesterday was merged with the original from July 1st... it didn't vanish nor was it taken down, just moved to the correct location.

He also has the price listed at $1600 "net", that's another violation of the Exchange rules. Sellers need to do their own math and list a total price shipped.

If you're unable to view any members profile, that's because they have it blocked... personally I never understood the "why" of that.

I'm able to see all profiles however whether blocked or not. colubrid was already logged off before you posted in his thread with your email, I'm sure he'll be in touch once he logs back in and sees it.

Curious how this makes him seem like an impatient pain in the butt? The guy is new, and had a legitimate question. Just like some sellers may be wary of a new member trying to buy an expensive knife, does the buyer not have the right to proceed with caution when purchasing a high dollar item? Especially when the post suddenly disappears? Not really a warm welcome to the community.

Even if it wasn't nighttime, (some) people have lives and other responsibilities. I stand by my assertion that the thread was premature.
And, fwiw, the OP posted a working link to the ad; so it didn't disappear.

I think y'all are jumping on the OP a little too hard. It wasn't the wait time for a response, it was the seeming mystery of the missing thread and unavailable profile, so it all seemed weird to him. He didn't say he expected a response so fast; he said he was looking for an explanation into those things he hadn't experienced before.

Reminds me of someone who calls you a second time right away if you miss the call, then sends that text saying call me or pick up assuming your just staring at your phone..its one thing if its a person your friends or aquainted with, not a stranger.. that being said I KNOW how exciting the chase can be for a blade you REALLY want..BUT if youve only been on the forum for a day.. give a day to hear back atleast before panic sets in

I am the originator of the for sale thread in question (I am the seller) . What happened is a new gold member contacted me to buy the knife. After a few PM's and emails with him he said he would take the knife. I asked him to post 'll take it in the thread". After a week of waiting for payment and no responses II waited patiently because nobody usually backs out after an "I'll take it" and at least does not reply that they did had the knife lists as SPF (Sold Pending funds) on the ad itself. He told me he needed time to transfer funds into his PayPal account. after a few days I sent PM and emails asking if he still wants the knife and to please let me know. I got no response from the buyer. So I waited a bit and left the ad as SPF. I never heard again from the buyer and he edited out his post of "Ill take it" on the thread . So a week went by. I relisted it because everyone who saw the thread thought it was sold. Then Boro reminded me that I still had to wait for the full 14 days to relist the knife.

BTW if anyone can tell me how to unblock my profile (if it is indeed blocked??) I would like to know how to UNBLOCK it. I never blocked it to begin with. I think it just changed with the new format/system.

I believe we've got everything sorted, I've been in contact with colubrid throughout the morning with further inquiries to purchase.

To clarify, I started this thread in an effort to better understand the situation of having the post deleted (merged by the mods as it turned out) and when I attempted to view the members profile it showed as unavailable. My grandmother always said that patience is a virtue but Reagan also said it is important to follow the old Russian proverb of 'Trust but Verify'. I simply wanted to make sure nothing hinky was going on and thankfully it looks like everything and everyone involved is above board.

I appreciate the mods quick response in explaining the situation.

Yeah great mod to respond so quickly.

BTW I have been a member here with thousands of posts since 2005. I don't know why the new format changed because I used to be able to review members post in ALL categories. Now I can't figure out how to check someones history any longer. It used to be simple and a way to check on who you are dealing with. Now you can't find out who to trust.

Nah - your profile was blocked before the update. The option to change the setting is under the Privacy heading

Still blocked.

You were in the correct spot but need to scroll down a little bit more.. You want to change the options under the "Allow users to" section.

colubrid you are no longer blocked.

To answer your question about members posts in each category, my screenshot of your profile shows what it now looks like to another member viewing yours (your or any other members profile). It’s not as specific/detailed as before the upgrade, but this is how it looks with the new upgrade.

Yes, That's what I meant. Very limited. Too bad all those posts are gone now. I had posts counts on about every forum.

It is also good to see how others had previous interactions and their specific interests

With the new software, it only seems to display the top five post areas. (You can still search for a member's posts within any subforum, but the full area count isn't available on their page anymore)
