I own a Vantage Pro and love it. Havn't seen any reviews on the Vantage Force. Opinions!

I have the Force Pro and Avid. I love the Pro and like the Avid also after I replaced the scales. The factory aluminum scales on it were just too agressive for my tender hands. You could use them as a wood rasp.

Thnks for the reply. I meant to ask in my OP if the Vantage Force had any issues with the liner lock or blade centering that the Vantage Pro did.

I personally haven't had any liner lock or blade centering issues with my 4-5 Vantages. I have the Vantage Force select and Avid and no problems with those either. 'Cept like Plumb says, scales on the Avid could file wood. Would like to find a way to smooth them down without marring them up too bad.

No lock problems on any of the dozen or so that I own and only one or two off center. Not one in the bunch is/was off center enough to be any problem unless you are just anal about it.

This is how I fixed the Force Avid scale problem.

Dagnabbit if I did not just order a Vantage Force Pro. The power of peer pressure.

Is anyone else as excited as I am about the release of non-coated Vantage Forces this year?

I'm thinking about removing the coating from my force pro. What chemical solution do you think will do the best job?

Just curious, is the coating on your knife scratching up? Is that why you want to remove it. I'm asking because from what I've read, the coating on these knives is supposed to be very well done and durable. Thanks.

If you wanted to remove the coating on the blade you could use a Tyco wheel or a Scotch brite wheel. Either would do the job and leave you with a smooth satin finish. Just use a fine wheel. Removing the blade for this procedure would probably be of benefit to you. I personally don't like the black blade coating. I think ( maybe that's the problem) that when I use the knife, the coating will scratch and chip. I would rather not worry and use a satin finished blade...

The finish on my Force Pro was not uniform to the edge of the blade on one side. It also seemed to be on the soft side and would rub off when cleaning the blade. I dont have access to the polishing wheels mentioned.

I've had some of the black rub off of my (Vantage Force) blade as well.

I don't know if this is supposed to be normal, and if, at some point, you hit a level where no more will rub off on a paper towel.

It seemed to me, though, that a finish like that ought not rub off when wiping down with a paper towel.

I'll just use it and watch it. If the finish continues to rub off, I'll mention it here. Same if I find that it reaches some equilibrium.

I have had a couple of black-finished knifes from other makers (Ontario, Camillus) and the finish became "subdued" and scuffed, but it never turned anything black when I rubbed on it.

Hmmm.

I wonder what that means.

I don't get any black marks on a clean white rag when I wipe done the black blades on my two Vantage Force's (Pro and Avid), but I sure got a bunch off of the Buck/Tops black Nighthawks. I wiped the blade of one of them on my sweatshirt to remove some smudges and had to wash the shirt it left so much black on it.

I like Dave!!

The pic is a little dark, but I like the airplane in the background.

As for the black oxide coating, it will initially rub off everything from Bucks to Leatherman Waves. It comes off real easy at first, so easy that it got my pants pocket and fingers dirty. But rub it down with a paper towel and what remains won't come off so easy.

Sounds like a good reason to consider buying the new 2012 versions that are satin-finished to me.
