Vantage orange dye job

Very cool, nice even dye job. That's a really nice shade of orange. I really like seeing people customize their knives =D

RIT dye very colorfast some plastics that are dyed can fade, but it is cheap and easy to do a touch up if needed.

When you're dead and gone that knife will reappear on eBay as a rare Buck experimental model....
Nice job...

Hogger. Just ordered the same Vantage force and plan on going with the orange dye treatment. Could you post how you did yours and anything you might have done differently if you were doing it again?

What BH said.

I am on the ready line:

Was looking on the Rit website and they have several shades of orange, some single color some are a mix of different shades. They also have different procedures for dyeing stuff like stovetop, microwave, etc. Evidently you can use it hot or cold. I really like the shade Hogger used so hope he posts his process.

I mixed about a half bottle with some white vinegar to boiling water add scales and let soak. Next time I would use the whole bottle. The longer you soak the darker they will turn out. use some wire to dip with. check every few minutes to check depth of color. Rinse with cold water and enjoy. If you remove the scales make sure the washers don't come out, there are two washers on both sides one is very thin. I push the pivot out with a round tooth pick and leave it in to keep the washers in place. Don't forget the pics.

Thanks for the link Oregon and thanks for the reply hogger. Did you do anything to clean the scales before you dyed them? I was thinking soap and hot water followed by a wipe down with rubbing alcohol or something to make sure they were really clean. Was the water still boiling when you put them in or did you jut bring it to a boil and then remove the pan from the heat?
