Absolutely love my Vantage Pro in s30v. But was wondering about the linerlock. Are linerlocks in general more prone to being disengaged during heavy use (ie. aggressive cutting)? What are the limitations/disadvantages to a linerlock as compared to a lockback or framelock.

I would imagine a twisting motion during cutting would be more likely to disengage a linerlock.....as compared to a straight back and forth cutting movement. Thanks in advance.

Sean,
Good question, but I doubt you could find a way to cause it to fail. These knives are tested and retested to ensure 100% reliability under anything close to normal operation. It is my understanding that the Sawby Bucklocks were recalled because it was possible for the lock to fail if hit on the spine with a hammer. Hardly close to normal but none-the-less recalled. Unless it would lock up on the very edge left or right with part of the lock hanging over, you shouldnt have an issue, enjoy hard using it.

You could break a liner lock on a Buck and many rabid framelock fans will claim that it is not only possible, but likely. This is fanboy talk, or actual claims from people stupid enough to have used it so wrongly as to cause the lock to fail.

Anyway, it won't break if you don't do anything dumb. Use a pocket knife the way it's supposed to be used (with the cutting pressure away from the liner lock, not toward it) and you'll be fine.
