After what seemed like a very long wait (patience not being one of my virtues) I finally received my small Vantage Pro. I have to say, the fit & finish of the knife is immaculate. Opening it with the flipper is just as smooth as silk. The only slight complaint that I have is I wish they made it so lefties could use the thumb hole.

I can see Plumbers point about it being on the small side. For me tho, it's a perfect size for casual around town use. Thanks Buck for a nice start to the New Year! :D

Congrats on the new knife. Was just thinking about this knife. I was able to handle one at a store and was impressed. It will probably be one of those knives I get down the road. Not sure you can beat the value of the knife and the utility. The blade shape seems perfect for slicing and utility work. Hopefully Buck starts making more knives like this one.

Congrats on your purchase, ono! I have a Vantage Pro on the way that I ordered after using my Cherry-wood Vantage Avid. Truly amazing knives that are an amazing value.

I have a Pro and an Avid, both are great! I really like how slim they are, low pocket profile and comfy in the hand. Congrats!

The small Vantage really is a great EDC pocket knife. Question: Is the Avid any slimmer than the Pro -- or about the same?

Just talking the large versions, the Avid is just a hair thinner than the Pro.

In the large ones, they are the same. I feel that the same applies to the small one, they just use different handle materials, and blade different steel. Hope this helps. By the way, all outstanding values, you can,t go wrong with the select to the pro. Jusg grab one---maybe they will add on anothe employee.

They seem the exact same size to me holding them next to each other, if there is a size difference it's not noticeable enough to matter.

I liked my Pro so much that I bought another one and gave it to the Missus.
She loves it too.

The Buck Vantage Pro is a great knife and at that price point is a clear winner -- much better value.

That said, what's the Buck policy re dismantling for cleaning/lube and reassembly . Does it void warranty or is it designed for owner maintenance? TIA

im very happy with my pro, im probably going to pick up an avid or select just because.

p.s. i wish buck made a slightly larger version, maybe 1/2" larger (both handle and blade), they can call it extra large.

As I read in another thread, dismantling apparently does void the warranty, but that's the only issue I have and it's understandable.

That said, the Vantage Pro sits in a sweet spot for me -- size and ergos are ideal and the blade is CPM S30V with Paul Bos HT. Two more are inbound from the dealer.

I was looking at a Buck Vantage Select at Walmart this evening. Other than the blade being 420hc what's the difference between the select and the pro? I think it was going for around $35 which seems like a nice deal..

Handle material, and blade steel. You cant go wrong with either model, they are all great!! ;)

I got no problem with the 420h-of course s30v rules. I also have no problem with the black thermoplastic on the Select, but if I am going with the select(or good of the "good, better, best" classification), I think I will go with the blue papestone Select. I thought wally had paperstone, is that true or not?

i showed one of my fellow co-workers my vantage pro and he really liked it. he asked how much and i told him what i paid for it, then i told him he can get a select model with the same design for about half the price. i told him im probably going to order a select large for myself this week and he asked me to order a small for him.
