Vantage rattle?

Is there any reason my vantage should have a rattling noise when it is partially open? No noise when the blade is locked.

My guess is the floating stop pin is loose in the blade hole. Has it been a while since you have lubed the pivot? if so, try a liberial dose of lube and see if it stops or dulls the rattle. If not, send it in.

Ok the Vantage is a new one from the web special page, I did lube it. I have had it for about a week. I heard the rattle when I was trying to flick it open and it didnt open completely, hense the partially open blade.

Im going to box it up and send it back to Buck for some TLC. I know it will be worth the wait.

I have the exact same problem with my vantage pro with a manufactering date of 12-06-10.I haven't sent mine in and don't think I will since its not a big problem to me.

The stop pin is not a press fit. So depending on hole size and pin diameter flucuations, some of these rattle. Not really a warrenty issue, but we will fix it up. 99% of customers never notice or don't care. We are probably going to make it a press fit as we don't want any rattle in the tactical market.

Thanks for the heads up. There was also a small cosmetic issue as wll that is noted in the return info. I am looking foreward to it's return.

OK, I get it now, I bought a Charcoal Dymondwood 345 Select today and Wal Mart, and the stop pin in it rattles away, blade open/closed or in between.

Ok we are opening a can of worms here. I am starting to get returns for this rattle.

This is not a design flaw or warrenty issue.
The pin only rattles when the blade is 1/2 open if it rattles at all.

Interesting on yours Bear as I cannot find any of them around here that rattle when opened or closed, just some of them do it 1/2 way open.

Just checked my cherry avid. Only rattles when open halfway as Hubbard notes.

Mine still does it in any position, but I have noticed that the more I open and close the knife, the rattle is getting quieter. I have to "shake" the knife harder to hear it than I did at first, so it will probably correct itself.

Out of 6 Vantages, it's the only one that has any rattle at all, including my Cherrywood Avid I got Monday.

(The Cherrywood Avid is awesome BTW!!) :D

The Cherrywood version is one of my Favs...

I have one of my engineers taking a look at this. In theory the pin has a load on it in the open and closed position so it shouldn't rattle...
