hey,
Just bought a chive and a vapor. for the same money I spent on both of these knives I could get a blackout. should I take these back and get the blackout or keep these two fine knives. I'm second guessing my buy now. which way folks? thanks DTSOLL

Keep them both. Look at it this way, you have 2 frame lock folders for the price of a plastic handled liner lock folder. The Blackout is much larger than the Chive and looks stealthy with the black coating, but I personally detest blade coatings on folders. If you're the type that could care less about the looks of the knife then it doesn't matter, but if you plan to use the knife, be aware that the coating will wear off and make the knife look like crap. By the way, which Vapor did you get, the large or small one?

You keep the Chive and the Vapor AND order a Blackout !!! Why stress yourself ? :D :D :D

El Cid,
I didn't know there was a large and a small. I guess I'm not sure. I got both at wallyworld. BTW what are the steels used in these knives? I would suppose 420 or similar. I thank you all. DTSOLL

The Wal-Mart in my area carries the small Vapor I with a 3 inch blade (plain edge) and the Vapor II with a 3.5 inch blade (partially serrated). The Vapor's blade is made of AUS-6 steel, while the Chive's blade is 420HC. The Blackout's blade is 440A. Hope it helps.
Check out Kershaw's website for more info: www.kershawknives.com

El Cid,
thanks for the info. I have the small vapor, made in china. I went to your kershaw link but the page was under construction, or am I missing the spot where I should be looking? I thought the blade in the vapors made in china was like 420 or something like that. Are you sure it aus-6? Just need to know for sure. I'm a freak that way. Thanks again El Cid. DTSOLL

No problem. Try here:

The Vapors were first made in Japan, but Kershaw moved production to China. Still, they are very well made for the price Walmart sells them for.

The worst thing that you can do after buying a knife is second guess yourself. I know, I used to be bad about doing it myself. It takes all the enjoyment out of using the knife. The bottom line is this, you bought two knives that you liked, enjoy them and use them well. Personally I think you made a good purchase. :)

I made a decision!! I got the Vapor and Chive out and played around with them and decided they are both excellent knives. I'm keepin em. Later on I'll decide if I really can't live without the Blackout. I'm sure it is a nice Knife but I now have two really nice Knives. El Cid really kind of swayed my thinkin, thanks man. When I got them out and started playing around with them some more the deal was sealed. Folks, thanks again for your help. I love this place. DTSOLL

trane_fan,
You are oh so correct. the vapor is in my pocket right now and tomorrow I think I'll carry the chive. And yes, I did make an excellent purchase not to be second guessed. thanks man DTSOLL
