When did the rear swedge on the Commander reappear? I found an old thread that said it was removed in 2002 for increased blade strength, but I see it's back on new production stuff now.

I bought a 2006 off eBay (I know, I know, but I like the backspacer so current production is out for me, for now...) and it seems totally legit, except for that blade swedge is missing. Anyone know what year it reappeared?

I believe 2008... Not 100% I'm just trying to recall info from my head, but here's some more info I remember. The commander has a very interesting history, originally developed with a thumb hole not a thumb disk, for the military's SERE school. The knife wasn't selected for SERE, but was selected by the naval special warfare school and is one of only a few knives that is actually approved by and issued to Navy SEAL units. I also know that the commander closest in size to the original commander is the super commander. There's actually allot more history behind it than this but someone will come along who will fill it in better than I can.

I have had a few 06's without swedge (8, mini 15) so I assume either then or sometime around then. I definitely prefer the deep swedge of the 98's, 99's and 2000 models. As well as the rounded g-10.

Pictures would show great what words can only describe poorly. Thank goodness film was in enter, and we had gifted photographers like Mathew Brady.

I have a question that I am sure some of you can answer. With the history that is Emerson Knives, is there one website that has all the background of every knife along with pics?

If I had my laptop back I could find if there was one site specifically or maybe two or three. Surely there has to be. It sucks to do searching etc. till I get used to using this smart phone as my main internet tool. Ughh. :-l

I don't think this statement is totally correct.

I have a good friend who is a Navy Seal, & he said that no Emerson knife has ever been actually issued to the Seals although some of the guys certainly do use them.

They can use pretty much carry any knife they want if they buy it themselves.

The CQC-7 that sold for $35,000 after being use during the "kill UBL raid" was not issued to "Mark Owen" but rather was a gift from Ernie to him..

I know Mr. Ernest EmersonHas told many time of his relationship with the Navy Special Operations Command, S.E.A.L. team, and that the Emerson SARK was originally developed for the Navy Special Operations Boat Crews.

Also Emerson Knives are being sold to Uncle Sam, on GSA contracts, but it does not spell out in black & white what units, agencies are buying the knives, and how many.

My nephew who spent a year in Afghanistan as a Army Combat Medic carried, and uses an Emerson folder, he was loaned by another medic who also carried the knife in Afghanistan.

When I was in the military we bought stuff that was better than issued, as we want stuff that worked. Nelson Copper the famous knife maker, had a constant flow of orders from forces in, and going to the RVN because his knives were superior to the crap uncle issued.

I believe Mr. Emerson may chime in on this thread, after the blade show. But I will assume he is very busy getting ready for that event that is coming up fast.

Benchwarmer380 I had ran into that thread some years back before I even knew of BFC. Unfortunately that is pretty much useless now. It's good for names etc. though. If that was intended because of my question....Thanks for trying to help me out.:-)

Hey Gregg just a heads up I know there is a specific background related to a few of the CQC knives particularly the 6,7,8 and 9. The 6 being created to conform to the SEAL standards for a knife thus becoming part of the Specwar series. After that point they became a sort of status symbol among elite groups across the globe including SAS GSG9 etc. And the CQC-9 being created for a particular American law enforcement agency.

The green forum is Emerson Knives Nirvana :)... Suspect Sanctum has all the information and knowledge you will ever need

That's true, I've been reading and thoroughly enjoying that place for about a month now, still haven't posted though. They run a tight ship, those that have problems with authority, rules, and the unwavering enforcement of them, need not apply. That's their little slice of the interwebs, and it's policed accordingly, I dig it.

fwiw- I have a Jungle Commander incoming. This will be my first and I'm really excited about this one.
Thank you New Graham Knives!

Nice. I'm sure this goes without saying around here, but we want pics.

And New Graham has turned into one of my favorites, the band aid dispenser is a nice touch, and they've come in useful for edc and diaper bags.

Yep, we're gonna need pics of that. When you post it, I'll post mine ;)
...if I can figure out how lol I've never tried it
