In addition to the tech report noted above, Prof. Verhoeven also wrote a book on heat-treatment for knife-makers who are not trained metalurgists. If you Google around, you should be able to find it. It's over 200 pages.

If you do a Google search on 'john verhoeven knife sharpening', you should see a .pdf linked at or near the top of the search results. A copy of the file is still there.
