Hello everyone. I was looking at my moms kitchen knives today, and I saw a knife that said "Vascowear" on the left side of the blade, and on the right side it said 100% Vanadium.
What kind of steel is Vascowear? I've never heard of it.

Thanks!

Jeff

Jefroman, I think it is an exotic tool steel. Don't really know much about except that I have an old Gerber Folding Sportsman with a Vascowear blade and I rememberit was quite a bit more expensive than the standard version. What brand of knives are they?

I also believe it is a tool steel, read about it in an article about blade steel in a mag a few years ago, TK I think. Maybe check it out on google or some other search engine.

Vascowear is a super high alloy tool steel; now called Cruwear. Not sure of the exact analysis, but I do know it is a motherhummer to grind and finish after heat treating! I believe the average working hardness is 62 or so. And, it's tough too! I have a couple of Vascowear blades I am working on that have been heat treated, and they EAT belts! Vascowear is NOT stainless, so it WILL rust and discolor if you dont take care of it. That kitchen knife will turn a nice shade of blue after time.
