I have two new Sub-zero mini hatchets and one of them has a poor handle at best. I plan on reworking this head to make it cut more to my needs as a wildlife biologist, but I also want a new handle.

I really like the old curved fawn foot handles on some vintage belt axes and hatchets. I have a block of curly Canyon Live Oak otherwise know as Maul Oak. Does anyone make such handles? I might just have to do it myself?

Any other pictures or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

How do you like those hatchets so far. I love mini hatchets and have been considering getting one since they are pretty reasonable.

From what I understand, the Vaughn mini hatchet has a really small eye, so even if you find a handle you like, you will still have to greatly reduce the size of the top of the handle so it will fit through the eye of the hatchet head. So, it may be worth it to try to make a handle yourself. Also, the head of those mini hatchets are so light a full size hatchet handle may be too long/heavy.

I have a Super Banko mini hatchet and I made the handle from a broken double bit axe handle. I made the handle straight as I didn't think a hatchet so small needed a curved handle.

Honestly...these things are ridiculously small. I think the one I am keeping is going to my daughter for a hatchet in her hunting kit. She is only 11 1/2. Look below.

P.S. I am 6'8" 300 pounds and my hand takes up most of the handle.
