I was a long time friend of Kirby Van De Griek, a knifemaker who has been discussed on this forum. Kirby was a dear friend of mine, almost like a brother, and I owned two of his knives: a very plain black "utility" knife, and a rather ornate dagger of the design he called Tibetan Temple Dagger". It had a double edged blade, nickel silver fittings, a black wenge handle, and a large red cinnabar bead for the pommel. As was customary with his fine knives, this dagger was stamped at the base of the blade with the initials "VDG". It also had a blind-stitched sheath with dark red trim on the throat. From what I understand it was the only Tibetan Temple Dagger he ever made with this color combination.

As I said Kirby was a dear friend, and when he was killed in a motorcycle accident 6 years ago, his knives became even more precious to me.

Well, They went missing about 2 months ago.

I suspect some of the sketchy friends of my stepdaughters recently ex-boyfriend, but have no proof. I've filed a police report but nothing has turned up.

So if anyone on this forum is in the DC/Baltimore area, and sees any knives fitting this description in shows, or pawn shops or anything, PLEASE contact me at my email: kalligraphos@yahoo.com or phone me at (304) 283-9926. I will gladly post a substantial financial reward for information leading to the recovery of these knives.

These knives mean more to me than any amount of money anyone could ever get for them on the market--they are like family heirlooms to me. Kirby was like a brother to me, and the loss of these knives makes my memories of our Kirby's tragic passing even more painful.

Thank you,

Richard,
Sorry to hear of your loss. It is a sad day when someone has no respect for other people's propperty, especially when it comes to knives and guns. I was also sadden to learn that Kirby had passed away. I new him when he lived in Vienna, VA. He was one of the first knife makers I met and visted at their shop. Good luck on finding your lost knives.

Have a Nice Day,
