So how much does the shorter hammer head type hawk weigh?
These look really good.
i think you are talking about the Trail hawk head that we use
Standard, brother.
i try to keep the hawks averaging about one-ounce-per-inch of length, brother (give or take 10 percent - i try to customize it for the folks who buy them, and can go light or heavy depending on intended usage - i like my 3/4 ultralights, but i also like my battle axes, which can probably chop oak with the edge of the Exterior Strike Plate, especially if i add a little Kevlar and a few other goodies - we also play with balances - things that you will never be able to do with wood or many metal combinations effectively... and Hell yeah! it's a hoot to make these things...! har!).
that general weight convention makes the
Gen 1 Mk 3 hawks able to fell trees and doors in a pinch, while being comfortable to carry all day, and stay deadly in a fight, if it has to come to that. -
it's just a rule of thumb that seems to work, and will always be subject to change - these
Gen 1 Mk 3 handles are starting to bend the rules again, so we should see a
Mk 4 before long....
you haven't lived until you've had a
28 inch hawk that weighs about 24 ounces and doesn't quit though. - i am going to make one like that for my summiting Mt. Whitney in September -
i love 'em,
needless to say.
and they will probably only get slicker, God Willing.
it's a team effort with the folks who buy them and give us feedback, every one of those good folks are considered an
Investor, vice
clientele - and we will strive to be worthy of their support.
we don't take headaches from any buddy,
and we definitely don't want to give any buddy a headache, so all the hawks are covered with an
Unconditional Lifetime Happiness Guarantee.
when my Erica and i find out how to make it a better, safer deal, you bet we will, fellow-babies....
hawking is a lot of fun, more than anything else -
we just want to keep the party going....
