Veff serrations?

As a rule of thumb, most people around here would say that serrations on any type of rough use knife is a no no. It has its definite advantages at times, but its set backs at others. But what about the Veff serrations? I've never seen anything like them and from what I've picked up, they bite quite well. And to sharpen you can just sharpen the back as you would a plain edge. Is this true? I think a diamond rod would work fine, but I have no experience with this particular type of serration. I can get a CRKT M21 for $30 and would love to try it. It would be a heavy folder for use while camping/hiking. On that note, how rugged is the AutoLawks system? Does anyone have any experience with the M21? Pros/Cons? What about the 8Cr14? If the serrations/M21 don't have a good standing, I may get a Becker Necker to use instead. I'm a college student thats lusting after two knives with absolutely no money...so naturally I'll probably buy both! :rolleyes:Thanks for any input.

I currently own the M21-SFG (G-10 scales, 8Cr13MovV steel, Veff) and a standard M21 (aluminum scales, AUS-8, pe). The Veff serrations bite like a bitch. They're sharp and really sink into whatever it is you're cutting. That being said, I don't know how it would fare going up against stuff like sawing wood, metal, etc. The standard abuse materials that people put the serrations against.

Now I love my two CRKT's. The 8Cr holds up pretty well, not quite as well as the AUS, but okay. If you're looking for low cost, get the M21 in the G-10 handles.

I would also use a rod type system for sharpening them, and not sharpening the backs. You can in a pinch, but it will eventually blunt the points of the serrations.
