We are going to Vegas the two weeks after Thanksgiving. We want to do some kayaking in the area. Anyone know the area and have any recomendations where to go and rent? I don't really want to do a guided tour looking to rent and do self guided. I know we have to think of things like parking the car and being picked up and returned to the launch site. Any info would be great

Hey Azis, I'm in Vegas, but I don't know squat about kayaking around here. I'll ask around and see what I can come up with though.

And I should be able to help you out with the car and drop off and pick up part.... I've done that before back east doing canoe trips...

Thanks for the response we will have a rental car, so if there is a place that will rent and then go pick you up at some point that might be the thing. I have looked on line but only found guided tours. I often find local people have the best info and its best to trust forum members.

Dang me for a sloppy old man, but I can't remember the name of the Government Park right on the outskirts of Vegas. You can't miss it because it's the only one there, and it's Right There. If you have a day left over after the kayak, the desert revealed in this protected and maintained park is wonderful. They even have an auto tour. I'm a desert rat so I love all the deserts; but this one is really good with or without the crazed look in your eye.

That's it! There's a redrock in California too, and I couldn't recall if I was misapplying the name to the Vegas park, but that is it, thank you.

I loved the place when I saw it.

I have made many trips and spent a lot of time there, however never have done in kayak there though I think there is a place down at the end of the road at lake mead. I understand a lot of the guide tours leave from the Boulder damn area I was thinking about going from that area through the cayons

Still looking for advise

Advice is cheap...........just stay off the strip and you might actually take some cash home with you:D

Just returned from spending 3 days up there with my kids. Had a blast, but boy is vegas expensive these days:eek: Next trip will be for the big 50 and I'm going as an alien...........Star Trek Adventure Hilton. I don't even want to know what that's going to cost. but heck you only hit the half century mark once.......right??

While you are in the area, taking the tour of the Hoover Dam is really impressive. To think it was built back in the 40's is just totally impressive. simple things for simple minds I guess. I liked it alot.

I did my 50th there

This trip I plan less strip and more surrounding areas, I am renting a harley for two days to do some rides in the senic areas. Though the second weekend will be dedicated to a group of martial artist meeting there several of which are instructors. I plan to do some lessons on blade fighting. So the trip will be a nice mix of things.

My Granddad helped build it -- 1931-1936 (completed two years ahead of schedule). He was involved in an accident when a tower fell. They X-rayed and thought he had shattered his hip. It was a pair of electrician's pliers still in his pocket. He kept them as a good luck charm and left them to me when he passed on.

Red Rock is incredible. Don't miss it. Although you will not see much water up there.
