Tuff-Glide?
White-Lightning?
Super-Duper-Luber-Shtuber?

Yeah, they are great and I appreciate them all. BUT... I put some Mazola (sp?) on a VERY TIGHT lockback and it blew my mind. This is the best lube yet, and food safe, and cheap, and a little goes a long way...

Just sharing

Just beaware that vegtable oils will turn rancid and stink like the devil. Personal experience talking here

There are only two types of people; those who understand this, and those who think they do.

I've never had any trouble with veggie oils going smelly, but then I only use it on fixed blade blades. Heat, oil, heat, wipe it as dry as you can get it.

Yeah, well, people ... They're just not my bag

For an alternative that won't turn rancid and is safe to ingest, try mineral oil.

I just read on swordforum that mineral oil is really great for blades. According to their FAQ, The Japanese used "clove oil" but this was actually mineral oil with a touch of clove oil in it to add a smell (in order to distinguish it from other oils). They recommend getting PURE mineral oil, which they say is available at a drug store.

Add a little balsamic vinegar and garlic and you can dress the salad as you chop it.

Muzzleup, I actually used olive oil but got the best result with White Lightning and water.

You, know, I do have some pure clove oil, maybe I will try it on a blade like the Japanese use for their blades.

Vegetable oil on my salad, a hair-styling product, car paint protector, leather softener, things I can't tell you about... unless I have a brick of lard around, then I'll use that...

Good Evening, it is I,
THE GREAT AND POWERFULL
Vampire Gerbil.

Personally, I prefer mayonnaise. The smell does get a bit rancid in warmer climates, but that only serves to atract the flies, which is an obvious benefit.

I used to use vinegar and water, but then everyone kept asking to borrow my "doucheblade" and it got too creepy.... "Ma, that's a Sebenza, OK??"

Off to enlighted other non-malignant masses,
I remain,

Vegetable oils are good in that they are safe if you use your blade to cut food. However, it is true that it can go rancid. Some of you can joke about it up until you get food poisoning on your camping trip.

In addition, the viscosity can break down easily and it will get all gummy inside your knife.

Have you considered silicone based lubes such as those used by hobbyists on R/C models? They won't break down gummy, and they are non-corrosive to synthetics and plastics.
